EECV Family Newsletter
February 2024
A Message from the Principal
Hello EECV Families!
We have several events coming up in February so please take note. Outback Ray's Amazing Animal Show will be coming to EECV in February. Each class will learn about some exotics animals and get up close to them as they will be at our school for a live demonstration! Also in February, we will have Spring Conferences. Find more information on this later in this newsletter. Finally, we will be holding our one annual fundraiser for EECV, a Suzin L Chocolatier sale. This fundraiser allows us to provide our students with a school spirit t-shirt, have special events like Outback Ray's Amazing Animal Show, and hold family nights. We appreciate your support!
As a final reminder, please remember to work with our office on your plans for preschool/kindergarten for next year. Re-registration is required for preschool.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Jackie Plantner, Principal

February Fun with our Itinerant Intervention Specialists
Hello! We are Emma Heller and Erica Koson, the itinerant intervention specialists at the Elyria Early Childhood Village. Being an itinerant intervention specialist, we travel throughout the community or within our general education classrooms here at EECV to work with students who are on IEPs (Individualized Education Plans).
During February, we have some activities that address a variety of developmental areas. Please see some activities below!
Fingerprint Hearts
This fingerprint heart activity addresses a few
developmental areas (Cognitive and Fine Motor).
Students can name, point, or match the colors.
Students can use fingerpaint to make the dots or a
dot dabber to make the hearts.
Valentine's Books
Here are some books to read with your child during
the month of February! Reading is
so important and can address
a wide range of developmental skills.
The Elyria Public Library is a great
community resource for families!
Emotions
February is also a great time to talk about our feelings and emotions! We can talk about what makes us feel happy, sad, angry, excited, worried…etc. Sometimes we all feel these emotions and we can learn ways to work through them when we learn coping skills and strategies.
Returning Student Preschool Registration for the 2024-2025 School Year
Registration for students returning to Preschool will begin soon. Please review the information below to be prepared for next school year. Thank you!
All currently enrolled Preschoolers at EECV have received a 2024-2025 School Year Intent Form on pink paper through backpack mail. This form will allow you to inform us on your plans for 2024-2025.
Students planning to remain in Preschool at EECV must re-register for next school year. Spaces will fill up quickly so once you receive the information, please do not delay. Registration paperwork will be sent home with your child based on your response to the 2024-2025 School Year Intent Form. Please return forms as quickly as possible to secure your child's preschool spot. You may also receive a call from school secretary, Mrs. Bruening, if we have any questions about the program placement for your child. Feel free to call the office at any time to discuss your 24-25 school year plans for your preschooler.
If your student is transitioning from Preschool to Kindergarten you will receive information regarding this transition and any steps you may need to take.
Students transitioning from Preschool to Kindergarten DO NOT need to complete new kindergarten registration. If your child is enrolled in Preschool at EECV, they are an enrolled student and do not need to complete Kindergarten registration. If you have any questions on this please call the office and speak to Mrs. Bruening.
Registration for NEW students (not currently enrolled at EECV) will begin in March. We look forward to continuing to serve your child next school year!
News from Nurse Packman
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! Here are some tips for making dental health a part of your daily routine:
Brush teeth at least twice daily with a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste
Brush gently for 2 minutes in a circular motion, and don’t forget to brush your tongue too
Floss every day! Children usually require help from an adult to floss until around 8 years of age when they can begin to floss on their own
Limit the number of times snacks are eaten throughout the day-especially sticky foods, soda, and sweets
Visit a dentist every 6 months for a cleaning and checkup
Change your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months, or sooner if the bristles are splayed or worn, or after recovering from an illness.
If your child is in need of a dental checkup, the Ohio Dental Outreach in-school dentist is coming to our school on April 9, 2024. Dental care through this program is usually at no cost to you because all insurance is accepted, including Medicaid and Healthy Start-Healthy Families. Permission forms will be coming home with your student soon, or sign up online NOW at www.myschooldentist.com.
Please contact Nurse Packman anytime at packmanjennifer@elyriaschools.org or (440) 284-8099 with any questions or concerns about your child’s health.
Valentine's Day
Students will be permitted to bring Valentine cards for their classmates on February 14th.
Sometimes families also like to send in candy or a treat with the valentine. To be in line with our treat/celebration policy, these must be take home treats only. We encourage non-food items such as stickers, small containers of play-doh, temporary tattoos, crayons/coloring books, glow sticks, or small sealed bottles of bubbles. If you choose to send in a food item, only individually packaged food treats that can easily be sent home with students will be accepted. Food treats will not be eaten at school but will be sent home with classmates.
We are looking forward to a fun day of activities!
Reminder - Treats and Celebration Policy
This information is in our school handbook but as a reminder below is our treats and celebration policy.
We love to celebrate and recognize special occasions in our students’ lives. Sending in treats or items from home is not required or necessary; however, if you would like to send something in to celebrate an occasion, such as your child’s birthday, please keep the following in mind:
- We have many students with allergies, so be sure to discuss treats with the classroom teacher first. All treats must be pre-approved by the classroom teacher. No food sent in for birthdays/celebrations will be consumed at school. It will be sent home in backpacks.
- All food items sent in must be individually wrapped, pre-packaged, and include a list of ingredients. Again, no food sent in for birthdays/celebrations will be consumed at school. It will be sent home in backpacks.
- We encourage non-food items such as stickers, small containers of playdough or bubbles, temporary tattoos, glow sticks, or crayons and coloring books.
- NO balloons or large decorations will be permitted in the building.
Thank you for your support!
