Sunday Services
This Sunday: Recipe for Love and Life
Gina Roché, UUCSJS Music Director
Gina is excited to invite the congregation to our November 27th “Share a beloved recipe, share your heart” service. A service where we will be Recipe Sharing and cooking up some joy, good music and thankfulness at the UU! Gina is inviting all congregation members to please share a beloved or favorite “recipe” for the upcoming Nov 27 service, even if it’s only because it’s your favorite dish to eat! It can be sweet or savory or both. Gina’s family of origin is of Spanish/Cuban and Irish heritage. Growing up in a family of seven there were many traditional Cuban dishes gracing the table. Her abuelita, aka Nana, made the absolute BEST food. It was always a celebration when Nana came to town with her arroz con pollo, picadillo and morro. Every St Patty’s day there was homemade Irish soda bread, ham and cabbage, and we made the sweet “Irish potatoes” (from our Philadelphia side!).
PLEASE NOTE: This service will be in person at UUCSJS and streamed live on our Facebook page. A recording will be available later in the day on our YouTube Channel.
*Masks are currently optional at UUCSJS.

Margaret Circle
The Margaret Circle holiday party honoring milestone birthdays will be held from 1 to 3 at the UU Center on Thurs., December 8—note that this is one week later than we usually meet… Please bring a treat to share, which can be either sweet or savory. The program should have us all chuckling as well as somber at times as we remember what was happening in the world when our birthday honorees were born—and listen as they answer some intriguing questions about their long lives. There may also be some gag gifts involved. Barb Morell and Judy Pereira will host.
While it’s true that Margaret Circle women are mostly of a certain age, ALL women of the congregation are cordially invited to come to Margaret Circle.
Essentials for Lay-Led Congregations

Date & time:
Saturday, December 10, 2022, 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST
Cost is sliding scale - $20-30-40 if you are part of a congregational team; $30-40-50 if you are the only person participating from your congregation.
Registration deadline is December 2.
Time Change Survey
All members, friends, and visitors of UUCSJS were emailed a survey to take the temperature of the board on changing the start time of our Sunday services.
We are providing three options.
- The first option is to change the start time of our Sunday service on a temporary basis beginning in January through the end of April to 10:30AM.
- The second option is to change the time of our Sunday service on a temporary basis to 11:00 AM.
- The third option is to leave the Sunday service start time at 10:00 AM.
We have been approached by several congregants who think that the later start time might increase attendance and membership. I want to stress that if the congregation is willing to change the start time, that this would be on a temporary basis from January through April. We then would evaluate the results and begin a congregation discussion.
The survey will last for four weeks.
You can complete a paper ballot on Sunday at our services in the back of the sanctuary or follow the link below to complete the survey online.
Notes From the Board
We would like to thank everyone that has responded to our service time change. For those who haven’t responded, you have until the end of day Saturday December 11th. Early results indicate that the congregation is very much interested in changing the time.
We are looking to re establish our Emergency Evacuation drills and are planning to have them every six months starting in late March or early April. We have had some interest from some people that would like to be involved but we still need some additional support. We will probably have at least two meetings on a Sunday after service to prepare for the drills. Please reach out to Jess or myself if you are interested in helping out with this important project.
We are also in the beginning stages of documenting our history with two memorial plaques, one for congregants and the other for ministers who have made significant contributions to our congregation. If anyone is interested in creating a dialogue to discuss how we move forward with this project, please let me or Jessica know.
Lastly, we are making more progress on our audio visual project. We hope to have additional upgrades by the end of the year and will keep everyone updated on our progress.
The board would like to thank everyone who has expressed an interest in helping with these projects.
