Seeking Our Community Hidden Gems
We know we are fortunate to have a community with a wealth of experiences, skills, knowledge, interests, and expertise, and we hope to tap into you as an educational resource to broaden our students' learning and experiences. If you, a family member, or a friend has an interesting hobby, talent, or unique career path that could enhance the learning experiences of our students, please consider filling out this Google Form. There is no commitment or obligation other than giving us a broader understanding of the scope of influences within our amazing community,
Mr. Lewis will be gathering the entries and will be following up to discuss future partnerships.
10th Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive SUCCESS!
A special thank you to Nurse Mojena, Mrs. Baccaglini, Ms. Livingston, Ms. Guillermo, and Officer Brennan for assisting in the coordination and distribution process.
Cellphones, iPads, Texting, and Bullying
With the holiday season upon us, many parents are considering purchasing a cell phone or iPad for their child. We see an increase this time of year in conflicts that begin within a text or in a group text that can easily and quickly turn into an act of cyberbullying. Please help us support our students by reading this information sheet by Common Sense Media for some tips on how to keep your child’s media safe and kind. https://www.commonsense.org/system/files/pdf/2020-10/grades-k-12-family-tips-cyberbullying-digital-drama-hate-speech-english.pdf
There is a wealth of information on the commonsense.org website regarding online platforms our students are engaging with and their potential effects on our children.
Attention 5th Grade Parents
All students born on or after 1/1/1997, entering 6th grade and 11 years old must have the mandated 2 new vaccines. Every child should receive these 2 vaccines as soon as they turn 11. They are:
Menactra (meningococcus), and
Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis)
If you have not already done so, please make a doctor’s appointment for your child to receive these 2 vaccines as soon as s/he turns 11. Then send written proof to Nurse Mojena as soon as possible. For those who turn 11 during the summer, you will send the documentation to the nurse at Frelinghuysen Middle School.
Failure to comply with these regulations will result in your child’s exclusion from school in September 2024, until the requirements are met.
SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS WITH A GIFT TO THE MORRIS EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION!
The Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) works year-long in collaboration with the Morris School District community to bring resources to all students and all schools. Together, we help everyone Imagine the Possibilities - and make it a reality.
This includes funding for annual Cultural Arts programming, classroom grants as well as literacy programs and resources to name a few. We rely on our donors to make this all possible and during this season of giving, we ask for you to consider a gift at bit.ly/MEFgift to help us continue our impact for the ‘23-24 school year.
Click here to learn more about the MEF's impact. The Morris School District is an amazing place, and the MEF is proud to be its partner for over 30 years. We hope you will join us this school year to Imagine the Possibilities!
Attendance Matters
Research shows that missing 10 percent of school, or about 18 days, negatively affects a student's academic performance. These habits are building blocks for academic achievement and personal growth, setting the stage for a bright future. Unless your child is sick, we expect your child to attend school every day.
