Growing up in Cleveland Heights, I was given many opportunities to begin developing my love for teaching. As a teenager, my friends and I ran a very popular babysitting business. At the same time, I was a lifeguard during the summers, which included teaching both group and private swimming lessons to children. During the winters, I worked as an ice guard at the skating rink, assisting with group lessons there, as well. Later, in college, I taught private swimming lessons and worked in a daycare/preschool owned by friends. Although I began college as a nursing student, I quickly realized that teaching was the right career path for me because I would be doing what I truly enjoyed. Out of college, I worked as a preschool teacher for Head Start. After marrying my husband, (also a teacher) I began as a long-term sub in Cuyahoga Falls, and soon after, was offered a full time position at Silver Lake Elementary where I am still a proud member of the Silver Lake family.
