Message from Administration
As I reflect on this school year, I am amazed to see how much growth and progress we have made together. I thank everyone for all you have done in the best interest of our school, and I sincerely thank you for continuing to partner with us to help each child reach their potential.
Yesterday marked the end of the adjusted second quarter and the school year's mid-point. Now that we are at the mid-point of the school year, it is a great time to reflect on the first part of the school year and set goals for the second half of the school year. Part of the reflection and goal setting is to participate in parent-teacher conferences. Sign-up for a math conference is open now through February 2 at 4:00 p.m. We are excited to share the successes so far this year and plan for continued growth during the second half of the school year.
Mrs. Debra Anoff, Principal

Student Wellbeing
Dear Lisbon Families,
We are dedicated to providing a safe, supportive school environment. As we approach the second half of the school year, we wanted to remind you that HCPSS is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment that focuses on student well-being. We are taking this time to uplift the importance of reporting any type of bullying that has occurred. We will be reviewing this with our students and staff as we start the second half of the school year, and hope that you too can uplift this at home.
For children facing the emotional toll of bullying, a supportive individual can make all the difference. Please encourage your children to reach out to a trusted staff member at school should they need to report anything. As parents and guardians, you will use the same reporting form as students by following the steps outlined below.
How do I report bullying?
- When you believe bullying has taken place, you should report it through the Bullying, Cyberbullying, Harassment and Intimidation (BCHI) reporting form. Reporting can take place in one of three ways:
1. Complete a BCHI online reporting form
2. BCHI paper reporting form (available in the main office, staff workroom, school counseling office, media center, and health services office
3. An oral report to a staff member
- It is important to note that policy states “in the event the reporting party does not complete a BCHI Reporting Form, school administrators/supervisors will take the appropriate steps to address and document the incident.” Therefore, if you or someone else makes an oral report, it then must be documented (i.e. through a BCHI reporting form) by the administrator.
Thank you for your partnership and attention to this important topic.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Debra Anoff, Principal
Mr. Bradley Scobie, Assistant Principal

News From The Health Room
It is sometimes difficult to decide whether your child is too sick to go to school. As a general rule, a child should stay home if they have:
- A fever higher than 100 degrees Fahrenheit
- Vomited (not caused by motion sickness or a gag reflex unassociated with illness)
- Diarrhea
- A very frequent cough
- Persistent pain (tooth, ear, stomach, etc.)
- A widespread rash
Most of these problems need to be discussed with your child’s healthcare provider to determine if an office visit is needed. Please keep your child at home when ill or having a fever (100F or above). Students should stay home until fever free WITHOUT fever reducing medication for 24 hours.
To help prevent the flu and other colds, please encourage your children to use good hygiene habits:
- Wash hands frequently
- Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
- Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Cold Weather Reminder
As cold winter weather approaches, we want to remind you that students will still be going outside for recess. Please make sure you send your child to school with warm clothes. All clothing should be labeled with your child's name. Below you will find the HCPSS criteria we consider when having outdoor activities.
- Temperature and humidity
- Wind chill
- Heat index and air quality
- Age of students
- Length of time outdoors
- Adequacy of the children’s clothing
- Condition of the playground
- Falling precipitation (more than a sprinkle or mist)
- Thunder and lightning
Generally, it is assumed that students will be outside for recess, physical education, or any other outdoor activity when the temperature combined with the wind chill is not less than 20 degrees Fahrenheit or the heat index reading is less than 95.

Many 4th grade students have signed up to participate in the Reverse Engineering Instructional Seminar. Students will take apart objects to see how they work and discover the technology used inside.
As the holiday season approaches, many of you may begin purging closets and cleaning out toy rooms. If you have any items that you wouldn’t mind donating for our reverse engineering students, please send them in with your child. There is a collection box in the front lobby area and this collection will continue through January.
Items do not need to be in working order, but they should be safe to disassemble, have a way to be taken apart (flat-head or Phillips-head screws), and no larger than approximately a shoe box. Some suggested items are below:
Calculator
