Strings Update
Mrs. Woods, Strings Teacher
Third Graders did a wonderful job performing at their Open House! They were very attentive and displayed the ROSE values as they performed for the first time with an audience. Since Open House, they have learned the A Major Scale and will be starting Twinkle Variation this week. They will be working on lots of new repertoire for the spring concert. The spring concert will be Monday, March 30th at 6:30 pm in the Highcroft Gym.
Fourth Graders are preparing for 4th Grade Strings Day. Please make sure your child turns in the form by Friday, January 10th. 4th Grade Strings Day is on Saturday, February 8th at Parkway West High School. Highcroft students need to arrive at 3:00 pm with their instrument and strings binder. Fourth Graders are filling out a winter practice chart which started last month as they play in class and at home. Those who complete the chart will get to decorate the practice tree in the strings room!
Fifth Graders are finishing up learning the repertoire for the All-District Orchestra Concert. Their newest piece is called Rhythm 'n Blues. Fifth Graders are filling out a winter practice chart which started in December as they play in class and at home. Those who complete the chart will get to decorate the practice tree in the strings room!
Musical Notes
Mr. Spector, Music Teacher
Kindergarten is learning about high and low sounds. How do those sounds make a melody? Students are expressing that with their voices and through movement.
First Grade is reviewing SO MI melodies and practicing echo patterns in groups and rounds. They are creating and exploring the world of melodic contour.
Second Grade is journeying forth into the world of meter and time signatures. They will be using “ice skating” and tennis balls to explore various meters.
Third Grade is beginning their recorder unit. They will explore and create beautiful music with a new, exciting instrument that is sure to please our ears.
Fourth Grade is exploring the art of the Blues. 12-Bar Blues is a form of the blues which we will study and soon we will write our own song!
Fifth Grade will begin their study of popular music and musicology. We will study different genres of popular music and focus on the genres’ forms for expression.
