Marysville Message
September 22nd, 2023
Dear Marysville Families
Happy first day of Fall. Below is some important information and updates.
Picture Day will be next Friday 9/29/23. Information, online ordering and more options can be found at mydorian.com/order
Paper order forms were sent home with students and more are available in the front office.
At Marysville school students receive Pawsitive Tickets for demonstrating behavior that supports a safe, caring learning community. We work together to celebrate a positive community. All tickets received go into a large bin. When the bin is full the whole community receives a prize, treat or participates in a celebration.
So many students have already been working so hard to build relationships, act respectfully and show rigor that the bucket is almost full. I expect them to earn the prize next week!
It is important that this safe behavior continues on the buses. Please see this slide presentation about appropriate bus behavior. We had our school wide bus safety training this week and all students should be familiar with expected bus behavior daily and for field trips.

Drop off and Pick up concerns
Thank you for keeping the traffic pattern moving one direction as much as possible around the school for drop off and pick up. It really does get too congested when we have buses and cars trying to go opposite ways on our narrow streets.
Also, I have heard from some families that live across the street from Marysville that they have issues with parents parking in front of driveways or pulling up onto their lawn.
Please be considerate of the neighbors when parking in the neighborhood and on the opposite side of the school.
Thank you for being on time in the morning and at pick up. The office closes at 4:00 pm and there is a lot to do at the end of every day to prepare for the next school day and that can't be done with many students left in the office after 3:00 pm.
Attendance
Our school year has begun; the first day of school was August 29th. We work very hard to ensure all students receive the best education possible. However, we cannot provide students a quality education if they are not in school — on time, every day. As you may already know, school attendance is required by the State of Oregon for all children ages seven through eighteen.
Last year, more than 20% of our students had a high number of absences and/or tardies and were considered chronically/severely absent. This year we will monitor all student attendance closely and will expect that student's attend school regularly and on time. The general rule is to make sure students do not miss more than 2 days of school in a month.
We realize certain occasions will arise in which children will have a necessary and excused absence. Please remember to contact the school office at (503)916-6363 or marysvilleinfo@pps.net if your student will be absent.
Thank you very much for your cooperation. If you would like any support with attendance concerns, please contact us. We are here to help.
PPS School Community COVID-19 Testing Information
PPS will continue to offer free COVID-19 testing options to students in partnership with the Oregon Health Authority COVID-19 Testing in Oregon’s K-12 Schools Program:
Onsite Diagnostic (symptom-based) Testing for staff and students who develop symptoms onsite. Please complete and return a signed 2023-24 Parent/Guardian consent form to the school if you want your student to receive onsite testing if indicated.
iHealth/ BinaxNOW (at-home) Tests: Students may receive a rapid COVID-19 test for at home use if they develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or if they have been exposed to COVID-19 outbreak at school and families request one. OHA has made a limited number of tests available to our school. Test users can check the lot expiration date using the iHealth COVID-19 Test Shelf Life Extension Sheet or look up the new expiration date for iHealth tests here.
School-Community COVID-19 Testing Resources: The MCHD Student Health Centers and the OHSU Benson Wellness Center are also great resources for students to access primary and mental health care as well as COVID-19 testing, vaccines and boosters.
The OHSU Weekly Screening Program that collected student saliva samples to be tested ended as of July 31, 2023.
