LIVONIA CAREER TECHNICAL CENTER
NEWSLETTER ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DECEMBER 15, 2023
LCTC Community,
The upcoming week marks the final stretch before a well-deserved Winter Break for our students. Our students have worked hard, and I have full confidence in their ability to showcase their knowledge during their upcoming Common Summative Assessments (CSA’s) next week. Please read below for our full CSA schedule.
When we return from break we will only have one week left in the first semester, so make sure you are checking the gradebook and contacting teachers if there are concerns.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the season.

NATIONAL TECHNICAL HONOR SOCIETY
National Technical Honor Society is underway! If you received an invitation in class, please make sure you have joined Remind (the code was in your invitation) and Google Classroom (the code was posted to Remind). There are meeting updates, information on dues, membership, and Induction in January posted to Google Classroom. We don't want you to miss out!
CAREER INTERN PROGRAM
Career Intern students recently took a trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts to learn about different art cultures. They independently toured the museum while doing an online exercise that identified their favorite art piece in various sections including American Art, Asian Art, The General Motors Center for African American Art, and even Contemporary Art. They even enjoyed the Performing Arts section that had some puppets on display. Great trip!!
ADVANCED MEDICINE CLASS
ECGs! Advanced Med students have been busy learning all about electrocardiography (ECG) skills for the past few weeks. In addition to patient skills, electrode placement, and cardiac anatomy & physiology, they’ve learned over 20 cardiac rhythms!
ADVANCED SPORT MEDICINE CLASS
Ms.G's Advanced Sports Medicine class has been learning about bleeding, the different types of wounds, shock, and how to treat these injuries and illnesses. They practiced creating their wounds in class and got very creative with the stories that resulted in these injuries!
CONSTRUCTION TRADES I CLASS
Construction I students have finished framing their mini-builds and have now moved on to electrical.
CONSTRUCTION TRADES II CLASS
Construction II students are finished building the garage for the city house for the winter season. They wrapped things up by shingling the roof and installing the doors and windows before winter sets in. We moved to the interior of the house with the demolition of the kitchen and bathroom and removed walls to open up the floor plan, for the updating and modernizing of the electrical.
Marking Period 2 - Common Summative Assessment Schedule
As we approach the end of marking period two, we would like to remind students and parents about upcoming Common Summative Assessments (CSA’s) for students. These assessments are mandatory and scheduled for Thursday, December 21st, and Friday, December 22nd, which are half days of school for students. Because of our unique schedule at LCTC, we will also be giving CSA’s to our 3/4 block on Wednesday, December 20th.
This school year we shifted CSA’s from post winter break to pre winter break. This adjustment is aimed at providing students with an opportunity to enjoy a well-deserved break without the added pressure of impending assessments immediately upon their return. We believe that this change will allow students to focus on exam preparation without additional stress associated with holiday plans and activities.
