Halloween
Halloween is fast approaching and we are excited for the return of Hough’s Costume Parade on Monday, October 31st at 1:15 p.m. Costumes should be easy for the student to change into by themselves with minimal adult assistance. Students are encouraged to wear as much of their costume to school as possible. Costumes should be elementary-age appropriate (no gore, no weapons, etc.). If make-up is part of the costume, this must be applied at home, prior to school. We will adhere to the existing, grade-specific lunch/recess schedule on October 31. Due to the structure of our lunch and recess times, we strongly discourage students from going home during lunch to change into costumes.
The parade will begin at 1:15 pm, outside, weather permitting. Spectators are welcome to line the sidewalks along the route:
Begin at the south gate on the large playground
West on Lincoln Avenue to Dundee Avenue
North on Dundee to Lake Street
East on Lake Street to Hough School Main Entrance
Classroom parties (1st-5th grade) will begin following the parade, at approximately 1:45 pm. Kindergarten parties will take place at 9:00 am. Room Parents will be in touch with party volunteers regarding check-in procedures, etc.
Lost and Found
We have managed to collect an obscene amount of sweatshirts, winter coats, hats, and water bottles in our lost and found. Parents - if you have any interest in pursuing the items, please stop by no later than Monday. All items will be donated on November 1.
District-Wide SEL(Social-Emotional Learning) Survey
Next week our 2nd thru 5th-grade students will be taking our annual district-wide SEL
survey. Please follow this link to get to the district SEL survey letter. Parents who do not want their children to participate in the SEL survey may provide Mr. Ernst with a written request informing him that their child should not participate.
If you would like further information about the survey, please follow this link to get to the SEL Brochure.
Canned Food Drive
The Student Council will be collecting non-perishable food, benefiting the Barrington Food Pantry, from November 1st - November 22nd. Collection boxes will be available near the front office. Thank you for your support!
Variety Show
The Hough Variety Show will take place at Station Middle School Friday, November 11th starting at 6:30 PM. In lieu of ticket sales, the student council will be collecting donations at the door. Concessions will be available during intermission (cash only). Please come support your fellow Hough Hawks as they share their talents!
Honoring Veterans
Parent Trivia Night
Leave the kids at home on November 18th and join the Hough adults for a night of fun and games at the White House of Barrington! Grab tickets for a team of 8 ($200) or come yourself ($25) and get ready to test your trivia. At 7:00 pm we will decorate tables and enjoy a taco bar before jumping into trivia at 8:00 pm. We will group couples and singles in advance - no problem! With trophies and pride on the line, it's guaranteed to be a great night. Any proceeds go back to Hough Street School. There will be a cash bar available throughout the night. Tickets may be purchased here.
Hawk Squawk
Please take a moment to check out our recent Hawk Squawk. We have many budding reporters!
