De Soto High School staff and students endeavor to model the following core values:
INTEGRITY, INQUIRY, COMMUNICATION, PERSEVERANCE, and REFLECTION.
Principal's Message
Wildcat Students and Parents,
Final Exams begin Monday, December 16th and conclude on Thursday, December 19th. The full exam schedule can be viewed here. Semester grades will be posted to Skyward on
December 20th. While we believe there will be school on Monday, please see the inclement weather schedules included in this edition of the GROWL.
Winter break begins at 11:07 AM on December 19th (after finals). DHS and the Main Office
will be closed through Monday, January 2nd, 2020. Classes resume on Monday, January 7th, 2019
The schedule for the first day of 2nd semester can be found here. Students report to their Seminar at the beginning of the day to get the most up to date copy of their class schedule. Seniors participating in Shortened Day will need to report to their first-semester seminar classroom. Seminar meetings will take place on Monday 1/6 through Wednesday 1/8, with restricted travel for the affected seminars.
Seniors and Senior Parents: This is an exciting time. Students have what will become a very short spring semester left before graduation on May 16, 2020. Seniors should focus on the goal of a strong finish to their high school experience and in resisting ‘senioritis’. Attendance is especially important.
Several Seniors have applied for a ‘Shortened Day’ during the spring semester. Those students are reminded of a few key points: 1) if you do not have Seminar, you should not be on campus – you will need to sign in at the office to meet with a teacher during Seminar, 2) having a shortened schedule is contingent on you having regular attendance and passing all of your courses, and 3) required senior meetings are still required for you (see graduation information) – please plan ahead.
Kind Regards,
Sam Ruff

12 Days of Giving
The USD 232 Education Foundation is getting geared up for our FIRST end of year giving campaign, lovingly named 12 Days of Giving, in honor of our 12 schools in the district. Every dollar raised as part of this campaign will be used to support educational excellence for the students of USD 232, through teacher grants and school programs. Now is the time for our community to come together to imagine the possibilities these contributions can have in our district! Homework Request Information
When your student is absent from school, please encourage your student to reach out to teachers requesting assignments missed due to the absence. Certainly parents can also reach out to teachers, but part of becoming an independent learner is communication, being organized and advocating for yourself. If your student is experiencing a longer term absence (a week or more), our counselors are available to assist in this process.
Five Day Exclusion
The seven day exclusion policy for influenza (flu) has changed from seven days to five days. Students and staff who are diagnosed with the flu will be excluded for five days, starting with the first day of symptoms. For example, if a staff member feels ill on Sunday and goes to the doctor and is diagnosed with flu on Wednesday, the five day exclusion starts on Sunday.
Students and staff must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication to bring down the temperature. If a staff member has followed the five day exclusion, but still has a fever on day six, the staff member must still be excluded until fever free with medication.
