NOVEMBER 1, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
Thank you to all the parents who participated in our pulse check last week. We received feedback on teachers, counselors, and programs that have positively impacted students and families high school experience and post-secondary readiness. We also received some feedback and questions around areas parents would like more attention given, which we will review and address.
This month, we also asked if parents know how their child is doing in school. While 93 percent responded with YES, we also heard there is room for improvement with some of our reporting practices. Again, I appreciate the time and thoughts parents share with us. Over the next week, we will thoroughly analyze the responses and follow up as appropriate.
The next opportunity for families to connect with teacher will be on Wednesday, November 15, 3:30-6 p.m. Parents can sign up for in-person, WebEx, or phone conference times with their student(s) teachers using the myconferencetime.com/slphs link. Additionally, our teachers will each have office hours for families to connect with them to discuss student learning progress. Teachers will message families directly with their office hours and how to sign up.
Last Thursday, we held our annual college fair. More than 50 representatives/recruiters from 2-year and 4-year midwestern colleges were available and engaged with our students. The turnout was strong, and our college partners were impressed with the level of involvement and engagement from our students and staff.
Today, I participated in the Respect Retreat with half of the 9th grade class. This retreat for all 9th graders focuses on community building and the power each student has to influence the school experience. This has become a tradition at SLPHS. I really appreciate the way our students engaged with the activities, reflections, and each other today. I look forward to seeing how the class of 2027 will contribute to our school community and culture.
Finally, I want to invite all families to come out and enjoy the final run of our fall play, Letters to Sala, this Friday, November 3, 7 p.m. OR Saturday, November 4, 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. The student cast and crew are amazing, and they perform with such courage and artistry.
Thank you for your on-going support of our students in the classroom, on-stage, in athletics and activities and in the community. Together, we build bright futures.

This recognition highlights significant schoolwide effort to create a college-going culture, to give students opportunities to earn college credit and to maximize students' college outcomes.
