The Eagle Eye
Children are the heart of Imlay!
Dear Imlay Families,
From Principal McCalley
I can't believe it is March already. A year ago on Friday, March 13th, our lives dramatically changed with the Stay Home Orders issued by Governor Brown. That is the last day Imlay Elementary had students in the building. What a year it has been!
We recognize the Imlay community has dealt with so much during this time:
- students attending school at home, on the computer
- health and safety concerns regarding COVID-19
- job loss or hours reduction
- housing & food concerns
- racial tensions
- figuring out child care, CDL support while working (either in or out of the house)
But we have also heard our Imlay community has had the opportunity to:
- spend more time as a family
- "sit in or listen in" on your child's daily school experience
- spend more time outside
- not be "stuck" to a calendar around extracurricular activities allowing family flexibility
I want to acknowledge that each of us has had a different experience throughout our "Stay at Home" time. I recently saw a quote that said, "We are not all in the same boat, but we are all in the same storm." So true! We are all living through the pandemic but each of our family experiences are different.
Keeping that in mind, I know you all made a decision last week about whether or not you intend your child to return to Hybrid Instruction in the near future. Thank you for your thoughtfulness in this manner. Please call us if you are still struggling with the decision or if you have questions! We might have answers!
Each week I will continue to share information about our return to school timeline and what hybrid instruction will look like for your students.
Important to know: Students staying in CDL will have a schedule change the day that students return to hybrid instruction for their grade level to align with in-person instruction. We will communicate your child's new schedule prior to the change!
Here are upcoming important dates:
- 3/22-3/26: Spring Break
- 3/29: Planned return date of K-2 students to hybrid instruction
- 4/5: Planned return date of 3-4th grade students to hybrid instruction
- 4/9: End of 3rd quarter & No School Day
Please reach out to the office staff or myself if there is anything you need. We are here to help.
Yours in Eagle Pride,
Jen McCalley
Lunch Delivery Change--Starting Today!
As a reminder, meal distribution changes begin Monday, Mar. 1, and will remain in place through Friday, Mar. 19.
All walk zone* meal deliveries will be made by vans or other designated vehicles, not school buses. (*Walk zone is within one mile of elementary schools.) School buses will continue to deliver meals outside of walk zones, similar to the method used in the spring of 2020. Many pick-up times will be different, so please review the walk zone and bus delivery stop lists for the schedule in your neighborhood.
Pick-Up Locations
Pick-up locations for meals will continue until March 19th. There are 6 locations where children can pick up their meals from 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.: RA Brown, Century, Lincoln Street, Poynter, South Meadows, and Evergreen.
For more information about school meals, please see hsd.k12.or.us/nutrition.
Mask Wearing Update for Hybrid Instruction
Our district nurses have updated guidance on acceptable masks and face coverings. Disposable or cloth masks and face coverings are allowed. Gaiters are discouraged, but if worn need to be two layers thick. Masks with exhalation valves or vents are not allowed, nor are scarves, ski masks, or balaclavas.
Although everyone is encouraged to bring their own face coverings, each school and district building will have plenty of masks available for staff, students and visitors* who may have forgotten theirs or, for whatever reason, need one during the day. (*Visitors to schools will be highly restricted this spring, based on health and safety guidance.)
Student-facing staff members and individuals in the High-Risk category will have access to N95 and KN95 masks. Non-student-facing staff members, individuals not in the High-Risk category, visitors, and students will have access to appropriately-sized triple layer fabric masks.
PAX Tools Workshop (Free) for Families
I am excited to share that a free, virtual PAX Tools workshop for families with children in Preschool-6th grades is scheduled for Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 5:30-7:30pm! This is a one-time workshop of 2 hours full of evidenced-based tips and tools for families to learn how to enjoy more peace, productivity, health, and happiness.
The training will be offered in two sessions. One for English speaking families and one for Spanish speaking families. Jenny Cary and Jennifer Ranger will be hosting the English session and Salo Acosta Campos, Dorotea Lopez Perez, Jessica Servin will be hosting the Spanish session.
I thought your family might be interested in this opportunity. Once registered, you will receive a PAX Tool Kit to use and follow along in the workshop.
I have attached the flyers with the details.

Kindergarten Registration for 2021-22
Dear Imlay Families,
It is the time of year when we begin to identify children who qualify to attend kindergarten in September 2021. In the State of Oregon, children must turn 5 years old by 09/01/2021 in order to attend public school.
Kindergarten registration starts March 1st, 2021 for the 2021-2022 school year. If you have a child who is eligible for kindergarten in September 2021, please contact the school office or the HSD website at www.hsd.k12.or.us for online registration information.
If you know of a family who may have a child who should start kindergarten in the fall, please pass this information along to them or ask them to call 503-844-1090 for more information.
Thank you for your assistance, and we look forward to welcoming the graduating class of 2034!
