Principal's Pen - A message from Principal Chris
Hello MES Sea Lion Families,
On Monday at 7am I am launching our new before-school academic support program called "Power-Hour". My goal is help our students achieve more by giving them access to the computer lab to work on their weekly DreamBox and Lexia lessons. The program requires pre-registration. Here are the details and sign up form. The program repeats each Monday and Wednesday until winter break. I hope my efforts help our students.
It was fantastic to greet so many parents at BTSN. Thank you for coming out and please join the PTA! Parents' next big partnership task is to attend Parent-Teacher Conferences the first week of November. Look at the calendar below and mark your personal calendar. Note the two days that students do not attend school that week!
Our PTA's first meeting is Thursday. Members will be asked to ratify the budget. The draft budget was designed to support the school plan set by the elected School Site Council. Highlights include more Instructional Assistants, year-round supplementary art instruction, marine science aquarium care, learning software, staff recognition & retention, etc. Check out the pie graph here to see where your tax-deductable donations go: https://www.malibuelementary.org/donate.
Zoe's Lunchtime Theater has begun! We are practicing for our Peace Day performance. Parents are invited! See the calendar below for details. Thank you to our PTA or individual donors for financing the program. There are six Lunchtime Theater performances this year and each costs $600. Please see the schedule here and send your earmarked donation to the PTA!
To help with order in the parking lot, please put your family surname or child's first name on a placard on your dashboard. Use the crosswalk and sidewalks. Never call children to walk through traffic. Parents are strongly encouraged to use the loading zone to pick up children. If you feel you must park, please save the lot spots for TK and K parents and use the street. Watch the signs! Parents may walk up to the fence and call their child over but do please leave walkways open for children.
Our new taller school fence will be fully installed around September 15. Work has begun! This task is the top safety priority of our School Site Council. We hope everyone will take pride when they see that our old rusty fence is gone and our new fence is up.
Enjoy the weekend! I will be in touch with you next week.
Thank you for your partnership,
Proud Principal Chris Hertz
