FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Father Doyle Families,
Thank you for another great week at Father Doyle School!
In this weekend's second reading from Saint Paul's Letter to the Corinthians, Paul calls upon us to "be united in the same mind and in the same purpose," as we are called to "preach the gospel." It's a beautiful reminder, particularly as we look ahead to Catholic Schools beginning January 29th, of the united purpose we share as a Catholic school community.
More than just "providing students with a solid, well-rounded education... in a caring, safe, and nurturing environment," we are called, each of us in this community, to form the children entrusted to our care into young people prepared to be both saints and scholars in our world. What a beautiful but challenging mission! Yet, united in mind and purpose, as St. Paul calls us us to be, I continue to see the fruits of serving this mission each and every day.
Finally, I look forward to seeing many of our PK-5 families at our Glow Party tonight! A reminder that the party kicks off at 5:30pm and runs until 7:30pm this evening. Thank you for continuing to read the remaining reminders, updates, and information for the week(s) ahead!
Catholic Schools Week 2023 - Get Ready!
We're so excited for Catholic Schools Week 2023! For those families who may be new to our community, Catholic Schools Week is celebrated nationally and includes activities, events, and competitions designed to bolster school spirit, build camaraderie among students across the grade levels, and celebrate our Catholic identity.
A detailed schedule of events will be shared with families next week; however, our Catholic Schools Week Committee has been hard at work over the past several weeks and we're excited to share the following details:
- Students will be broken down into tribes (named after the 12 Tribes of Israel) with other students from across the grade levels to compete in various competitions throughout the week from an Amazing Race to Name that Tune to Minute to Win It!
- We'll be holding a Faith Rally including Mass, adoration, saint studies, praise & worship music, and more!
- A day of service in which students complete various classroom service projects and participate in a canned foods drive.
- And much, much more!
We can't wait to share the full schedule with you next week!
Kicking off CSW 2023 - January Open House - Sunday, January 29th
Help spread the word! Our annual Catholic Schools Week Open House is coming up on Sunday, January 29th from 12:30pm-2:30pm. Interested families can register at the link HERE. A reminder that Father Doyle School offers a referral incentive. For more information, see the documents here.
Also, any student ambassadors interested in serving as tour guides are welcome to attend! Please contact Mrs. Marra for additional information.
FJVD Annual Auction - March 25, 2023
Our FJVD 2023 Auction Committee is starting to prepare for our school's Annual Live/Silent Auction Dinner, Saturday Evening March 25, and they are currently asking for donations of gift cards to use for the auction. We are asking that each family donate one gift card (of any denomination!) - supporting a local business, one of your favorite eateries or stores, or even an extra gift card you may have from the Christmas season.
Gift cards will then be utilized to create package items for the silent Auction as well as support other initiatives during the course of the evening. Gift Cards and other items can be dropped off at the school (at the main office in an envelope marked "FJVD Auction") or rectory; you can also drop off items at Sunday Mass in the Auction Bin, and gift cards in the collection basket. If you can help, please visit our Online Auction Wish Board at bit.ly/FJVDwishboard. Please help us make this year's auction another great success! And stay tuned for more info regarding this year's auction in the weeks to come!
School Spelling Bee - Wednesday, January 25th
Students in grades 4-8 have been completing their classroom spelling bees to qualify for the school spelling bee to be held this upcoming Wednesday, January 25th. The winner and runner up from the school bee will then go on to compete at the Diocesan Spelling Bee on February 2nd. Congratulations to our winners, and we look forward to the competition on the 25th!
