Marist School 4th March 2022
Kia ora, Ni hao, Dobar dan, Malo e leilei, Hola, Konnichiwa, Talofa, Namaste, Chão, Vannakkam, Kamusta, Hello!
Dear Marist whānau,
I hope you are all hanging in there and looking forward to the weekend. For many we're not going anywhere--so grab the opportunity while you can and get out & about!!!!
We continue to keep in our prayers our children and families who are unwell and are isolating. We pray for their speedy recovery and look forward to seeing the children back at school.
As you are well aware, more positive cases are presenting daily and we continue to keep calm and carry on.
Please keep in touch and reach out when you need any assistance.
We are a community, here to help each other.
Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui.

ASH WEDNESDAY
Today at school Father Carlo held a wonderful Ash Wednesday liturgy for the school. Instead of putting ashes on our forehead he sprinkled them on our hair. He said “Repent and believe in the Gospel.” while we received the ashes.
Our House Captains helped to lead the liturgy. We all gathered just before morning tea. It was a special time to come together and get ready for Lent.

MARIST SCHOOL BIKE TRACK
How fortunate are we to have our Cycle Track completed in these COVID times!!!!!
Since the beginning of 2020 when we started putting pen to paper around the enhancement of our physical environment we considered a Cycle Track.
After surveying our community 70% of the then community were in favour of this initiative and said they would also utilise it outside of school hours. Thanks to Bikes in Schools grants were applied for and we received the full amount of funds. Everything was delayed during the preceding 2 years as the pandemic continued to affect our lives in so many ways.
This year we were so excited to hear that the Cycle Track could go ahead. It has not cost our school community 1 cent! We are soooo grateful to the following people and organisations:
- Toni Dale and Bikes in Schools NZ
- Bike On NZ
- Kiwisport
- Auckland Transport
- Four Winds
- NZ Community Trust
We are sorry we can’t hold a big community opening in these COVID times but anything we do we will share with you. Watching the excitement of the children over the last few weeks as they have watched the construction of the track, has made it all worthwhile. With lockdowns at the end of 2021 it has been heartening to have our children back at school in 2022 ( albeit still during a disruptive time) to witness the Cycle Track’s development.
The Cycle Track, Garden to Table Project, and Mural were all part of our plans for Stage 1 of our Centenary Project. Shortly we will share with you the plans for our Stage 2 Landscaping Plan which includes seating, shade and natural plantings to continue to enhance our physical learning environment.

TREAD LIGHTLY
Some of you dropping off or picking up children from the Alberton Ave gate last week will have noticed the Tread Lightly Drain Game trailer on site.
Our Hubs thoroughly enjoyed their visits to the Trailer and the work stations set up in the hall - I am sure you have heard lots of information from your tamariki about this exciting learning!
TREAD LIGHTLY REPORT: BY THE NEWS CREW
The Tread Lightly Team is an organisation with the vision to “Inspire New Zealanders to live sustainably”. They came to our school to help teach us about water.
Tread lightly came to our school to teach us about our water and how we can help our environment. We got to play the Drain game which was fun. They showed us a model of a town and how much clean water is important to us and all other animals. We learnt about storm water drains and how we can stop pollution reaching the ocean. It is important to keep our moana clean because we eat fish from the sea and we need to protect our wildlife and creatures in New Zealand..
In the hall we did other activities to understand how to look after the environment. We even got to do virtual reality to learn about pollution in our oceans.
At the end of the session, we made pledges. Ask us at home what our pledge was so you can help us! Today we can make a difference.
