TVUSD's Board of Education met on Thursday, July 30, and received and discussed the administration's latest update regarding the safe reopening of schools. TVUSD students will begin school on Monday, August 17, 2020, in an Online learning format.

In an effort to summarize the presentation into more manageable pieces, we have highlighted some information below. Additionally, we strongly encourage you to watch the video presentation from the meeting. We have edited the full-length video and included the reopening of schools discussion only and it is about an hour in length. We believe it will answer many of the questions families and staff currently have.

School administration, and most of their office and support staff return to service beginning August 3. Depending on roles, some will still be working remotely. While some staff may be on-site and responding to emails, phone messages, etc., offices will NOT be physically open for parents or visitors, due to current office closure requirements and restrictions. Families will receive direct contact from the school sites with how to contact site personnel, including counselors for support and schedules, as well as information about devices, textbooks, and materials pick-up processes. Please give them a few days to get settled and we assure you they will initiate and respond to contacts as soon as they have information to share.

Current Governor's Order (Video 15:17)

• Schools may reopen if they are located in a local health jurisdiction that has not been on the county Monitoring List for 14 days and following cleaning and disinfection, a public health investigation, and consultation with the local public health department.

Waiver for Elementary (Video 16:55)

• TVUSD continues to evaluate and seek clarity with appropriate agencies and legal authorities regarding mandates and potential waivers, for which benchmarks and criteria have not yet been developed by the state to offer guidance to districts regarding qualifications. Contrary to speculation, no information has been provided to districts and no agencies have been able to apply. As soon as we receive the criteria and we know what the process is and whether or not we would qualify, we will investigate the waiver option for TVUSD.

Senate Bill 98 - Under newly enacted state law, school districts are required to provide (Video 17:44)

• Devices and connectivity so that every child can participate in distance learning;
• Daily live interaction for every child with teachers and other students;
• Class assignments that are challenging and equivalent to in-person instruction; and
• Targeted supports and interventions for English learners and special education student

Online Learning Expectations, Learning Management Systems, and Sample Schedules (Video 19:20 - 26:08)

• When school begins on August 17, students will be expected to be participating in online learning during the same times they would typically be on their school campuses. Families can plan on children being engaged in a combination of learning approaches during regular school hours.
• Definitions provided for combined learning approaches in the Online model: Asynchronous, Synchronous, and Independent Practice.
• Not an optional program, mandatory attendance.
• Sample schedules reviewed - these are subject to change and hoping to be finalized by Monday, August 3.
• Elementary VAPA, PE, and Library will be provided to students during their daily schedules.
