What's Happening in Electives and PE?
Mrs. Stout has been busy! The Leadership class has been working on team building since the start of the year. One activity they did to learn teamwork was blind puzzles - the only student who can touch the pieces can't look at the puzzle while the others explain where the pieces go.
They have put their leadership and team skills together to plan and run our first school social. Upcoming events we are planning in class now are the food drive, the Veterans Day Assembly and the Winter Social.
The Cadet Band students have all selected an instrument and are on their way to music making! Ted Brown Music made a fun visit where students were able to explore what instrument they wanted to play. We are focusing on playing our instruments with good technique and learning the first 5 notes. Concert Band is refocusing on fundamentals of making music and reviewing our basic rhythm and notes. The Symphonic Band is working on preparing their music for the Veterans Day Assembly.
It’s getting pretty in Mrs. Joslin’s Animal Advocates class.
The 6th grade students have been learning about the history of dog domestication, dog intelligence, and human-dog relationships. The students chose a dog breed to research and created a presentation to share with their classmates.
The 7th and 8th grade students in Ms. Joslin’s Animal Advocates class have been learning about dog and cat behavior. Students researched pet behavior issues, and created presentations to teach their classmates how to deal with these common problems.
Ms. Raschke has the7th graders running, jumping and stretching!
The students recently completed all of the Fitness pre-assessments (sit and reach, shoulder stretch, trunk lift, sit-ups, push-ups, flex-arm hang, pacer, and the mile run).
Next up: Floor Hockley! We are beginning our floor hockey tournament, after completing hockey drills and learning the rules of the game.
En la clase de español, the students are working hard to learn new vocabulary; and will soon be exploring the El Día de los Muertos holiday and gearing up for a Fiesta! Tacos, Enchiladas, Posole and Tres Leches Cakes on the horizon!
SHSD Capital Projects Levy Informational Webinars - Nov 1
If you would like additional information about the district's 2023 Capital Projects Levy proposal, please join us for one of two virtual informational meetings hosted by the district on October 17 and November 1. Both meetings will begin at 6:00 p.m. and Zoom login information can be found on the district's website at https://steilacoomk12waus.finalsite.com/who-we-are/departments/financial-services/shsd-2023-levy-information/levy-informational-meetings
The Steilacoom Historical School District Capital Projects Levy Proposition would support the renovation, expansion and improvement of school facilities, and provide funding for safety and technology improvements to meet the current and future needs of District students. The anticipated property tax rate connected to the new levy will be less than the current general obligation bond rate that is expiring.
Helpful information about the levy proposal, including an FAQ section, is also available on our website at https://steilacoomk12waus.finalsite.com/who-we-are/departments/financial-services/shsd-2023-levy-information.
