The Chameleon Connection: RISE
News for Families: Week 10: 10/09/23-10/13/23
Our fourth grade students are writing and sharing their work with Virginia Studies! Well done!
Arrival to School!
We love our students being kind to each other as they welcome each other to school!!!
Learning to Read
We enjoy seeing our students learn how to decode words when reading and writing!
With reports cards coming home soon, we wanted to share a visual with you to help you understand standard-based grading.
4's...are exceptional. 3's...are the target and should be aligned with how students are performing on grade-level standards. This is different than a student not turning in assignments. Students who are performing below grade-level standards should have 1's and 2's, depending on the amount of support they need to complete tasks.
A Message from GQES Administration:
Week 10: 10/9/23-10/13/23
Chameleons RISE: Raising Intentionality Strengthening Expectations for students, teachers, administration, and families.
Dear GQES Families,
We are excited to welcome you and your family to our Student-led conferences on Thursday, 10/12/23 anytime from 3:00-6:00pm. Our Student-Led Conferences is where your child will be sharing what they have learned in the first quarter. To make this evening even more exciting, we are having our Hispanic Heritage Celebration from 3:00-6:00pm on 10/12/23. The activities for Hispanic Heritage Month will all be in our cafeteria. Each child will receive a copy of the book, JUST HELP as it is an excellent story!
At school, this week, we are honoring Spirit Week (see the attached pdf below) for Hispanic Heritage Month (Spirit Week).
Exciting news: We will have a taco truck for you to purchase food for your family onsite. Parents can purchase any food and bring into the cafeteria.
We are monitoring our students' attendance every three weeks. The class that has the best attendance will be honored with a banner and each child will receive a certificate. The timeframe is 10/2/23-10/20/23. Please help us by sending your child to school on time, each day, ready to learn!
Opt-In to School Texts: Spread the word!
Not receiving school-related text messages? You must OPT-IN to receive messages. Text "Subscribe" to 67587. You should receive confirmation that you are registered. Don't forget to ensure all of your contact information is correct at your student's school, too!
Please pay attention to the morning drop as we are going to explore some new routines to speed up the line. We want to avoid blocking up the streets and/or intersections.
Ways to help: have your children ready to get out of the vehicle, more than one car may drop off at a time, pay attention to the crossing guards directing traffic upon exit as they can help speed up the line by allowing only right turns out of the parking lot. This makes the process go much smoother. Parents who try to park on South Cameron and walk students across the street actually slows the flow of cars exiting the parking lot (Please refrain from doing this.)
Students should never be dropped off on Southwerk as it is a very dangerous intersection. Thank you for your cooperation with helping us keep everyone safe at school.
More information:
- It is important for students to learn how to regulate their emotions, especially if they experience situations or conflicts. See the link below for more awareness on zones of regulation: Zones of Regulation. Ms. Sara Shoemaker (full time school counselor) and Ms. Karen King (who we share with Virginia Avenue Charlotte Dehart Elementary School) are excellent at helping students and families
- Please always update your child's emergency contacts, addresses, custody and/or phone numbers as changes may arise.
- If you have any questions, please call our school's main office at 540-662-3575. Thank you for working with us to support your child's learning!
