Miller Family News
Hello Miller Maverick Families,
The school year is undoubtedly moving along. We had our Alief Proud Festival this past Saturday. Thank you to the parents and families who attended. We are at the start of our second nine-week grading period. At that time in the school year, we must reflect on what we are doing as a campus and make needed adjustments to accomplish our goals. One of our main goals is to close the student achievement gap and continue to make academic gains.
We ask that you take time to review with your child their report card, have conversations about progress, and set goals with them for the second nine-week grading cycle. Our Mavericks have a lot of academic growth to attain this year, and our teachers are working arduously to ensure they achieve our growth targets by the end of the school year. Accelerated instruction will be provided for many of our students in the form of Saturday school, scheduled to begin on October 21st. If you received a text message from the school or your child brought home a letter of invitation, please complete it and return it as soon as possible. The following are a few reminders as we proceed with the school year.
Attendance is key! Be sure your child attends regularly and on time.
- Check your child’s planner daily. Students must write daily lesson objectives, assignments, and homework in their planner. The planner is also used to communicate information between the teacher and the home.
- Have your child work on iStation and iReady for at least 20 minutes each day.
- Communicate with your child’s teacher any academic concerns. Request a parent/teacher conference if needed.
- Students are required to be in uniform shirts and pants daily, as well as uniform sweaters/jackets if worn. Tuesdays can be an Alief or school spirit shirts, and Fridays are now our college and school spirit shirts.
We continue to encourage every parent and guardian to be involved. Research shows that the more parents are involved in their student’s education, the better they perform in school. There will be family engagement events and activities in which you can participate and opportunities to volunteer your time.
Parents, we greatly appreciate all your support for a successful 2023-2024 school year and encourage your continued partnership with Miller Intermediate. Working together, we can indeed achieve much success for our Miller Mavericks.
Thank you.
Welcome back Miller Mavericks! Your Counselors are thrilled about this 2023-2024 school year and everything we have in store for you.
The month of October is in full effect, with a few things to focus on and discuss with our students. During the month of October, students will be representing what it means to be RESPONSIBLE. October also spotlights Drug-Free Awareness and this year, students will have the opportunity to determine how they want to represent making the choice to be a drug-free student. Students will also receive their first report card of the school year this month. Report cards go home on Thursday, October 19th. Students earning All As, As with 1B, or As with 2Bs will be recognized during our Honor Roll celebration on October 27th. Students receiving this honor will receive an invitation to the event and an opportunity to RSVP. Our first round of WOW parties will also begin this month to celebrate students earning grades in all content areas of 75 or above and maintaining a conduct average in all areas of an “S” or “E.” We can’t wait to celebrate all our kiddos' hard work and achievements.
Meet and Greet Ambassadors (M.G.A.s) have been selected and have been doing an amazing job being the first faces of Miller Intermediate to our newly enrolled students. The Men of Brilliance (M.O.B.) Step Team has completed tryouts and has already begun representing Miller Intermediate through skill and precision, including performing at the Alief Proud event! Big shoutouts to all of you brave young men who took the initiative to come to practice multiple days and give it your all! Congratulations to our 2023-2024 M.O.B. members…Now let’s get to STEPPIN!!!
📢 Boost Your Child's Learning with iReady - Interim Assessment Approaches 📢
Dear Miller Intermediate Parents,
Did you know that your miller maverick has been working hard to become the best mathematician they can be?
As we gear up for the upcoming interim assessment, we want to stress the importance of daily iReady usage for your child's academic growth. iReady is an invaluable tool that helps our students thrive in their studies.
To support your child's success at home, encourage them to practice multiplication facts regularly. This foundational skill is a crucial component of their math education. Moreover, iReady provides a wealth of engaging resources to help your child level up and excel in their learning journey.
By encouraging daily iReady practice and multiplication fact mastery, you'll give your child the best chance to shine in the upcoming interim assessment. Thank you for being so dedicated to their academic success!
Warm regards, Miller Intermediate Math Department 📚🧮

1:1 Devices
📣 **Important Reminder for Parents** 📣
Dear Miller Intermediate Parents,
We hope this message finds you well! We'd like to gently remind all parents that our 1:1 devices are vital tools for your child's education. Please ensure that your child continues to take great care of their assigned device to support their learning journey.
Additionally, if you haven't already, please check your child's account for an assessed fine of $20 for the Tech Fee. We greatly appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.
Finally, it's important to note that these 1:1 devices are intended for educational purposes. As we approach interim and state assessments, students will need their devices to successfully complete these essential evaluations. Your continued support in ensuring your child has access to their device is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your partnership in making sure our students have the tools they need to succeed academically!
Best regards,

Hello, Maverick Families!
The Miller Library has so much planned for the 2023-2024 school year! My name is Ione Escamilla, and I am the Miller Librarian.

Hello Ms. Kemper and Ms. L. Taylor are the reading interventionists for 5th and 6th grade. They will be working with students who are struggling with reading. We follow the HMH curriculum and Istation. Istation (Reading) is a program used as a part of reading intervention curriculum. Readers are assessed in approximately 25 minutes with an engaging computer-adaptive assessment. Based on their results, learners are seamlessly placed in interactive online instruction. Struggling students are routed through reteach lessons, and teachers are given instant reports to monitor student progress.
Ms. Ford is the 5th grade Math interventionist and Ms. Blanco ELD interventionist for 5th & 6th grade. i-Ready Personalized Instruction uses insights from i-Ready Diagnostic to create a personalized path of engaging online lessons. In this way, students receive instruction and practice in areas where they need the most support. They feel motivated in the lessons because they are active, supportive, and relevant to their lives. Learning Games are a fun and engaging way for students to strengthen understanding of mathematical concepts, improve fluency, and foster a positive attitude toward productive struggle.
If your child is receiving intervention services, please be on the lookout for our "Intervening with the Interventionist" parent breakfast that will be coming up in November.
Thank You for a Wonderful First Nine Weeks! Let's Level Up, Mavs!
