Newsletter Term 3 Week 6
St Mary's School Blenheim Friday 1st September 2022
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Kia ora koutou te Kura O Hato Mere Whānau,
Firstly, thank you for your support last week when we had our Teacher Only Day (T.O.D.). It was a fantastic day of Professional Learning for all teachers that can be directly applied to the classroom in the Maths and Religious Education curriculum spaces.
Just a gentle reminder that the last Friday of this term is also a T.O.D. as we continue on our learning journey with our paper TH504 Catholic Social Teaching. We will be working alongside the staff from Te Kura O Hohepa, Kaikoura on both Friday and Saturday.
Yesterday I was reminded that perseverance in the face of adversity is the key. During adversity opportunities arise and we need to take advantage when and where we can. The daffodils on Stephenson Street were planted 3 years ago. Only a few ever rose above the ground and grew to full sized flowers. It was believed that they were all dead and the bulbs had rotted away. That is until the last couple of weeks. The extensive rain we have had has severely softened up the soil and ground here at school and during this time of adversity the daffodils took their opportunity with both hands, burst through the soil and grew towards the sun.
The daffodils are finally growing, and this has reminded me that we need to build personal resilience, be courageous, ask for support, and be patient in times of adversity as our time will come. If we are prepared and present, we will be able to take advantage of this time and support ourselves and others to personally grow. Always look to the bright side. The support is always there, it all depends on the conditions.
This is true in all facets of our lives, for us and our tamariki. It is important that we help to create the conditions for our tamariki to grow and also allow them to struggle at times and work through different strategies to learn and find a positive resolution.
For us adults it is important to stay positive during times of adversity and have faith that we ourselves with support from others will once again grow and blossom like the mighty daffodil plants of Stephenson Street.
May God bless you all,
Yours ‘In Christ’s Light’
Paddy Dowling
