Congratulations to 4th Grade Teacher, Ms. Heinlein, who achieved National Board Certification this month! We are so proud of her and this amazing accomplishment!! We are grateful to have her as a part of the Peirce Community!

What is National Board Certification (from: "www.nbpts.org)?

National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students and schools. It was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.

Recognized as the gold standard in teacher certification, the National Board believes higher standards for teachers means better learning for students.

Established in 1987, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in an independent, nonprofit organization working to advance accomplished teaching for all students.

The founding mission of the National Board is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by:

• Maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do;
• Providing a national voluntary system certifying teachers who meet these standards;
• Advocating related education reform to integrate National Board Certification in American education and to capitalize on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers.

Peirce is looking for professionals that are interested in speaking about his/her profession. We are looking for community members that would like to engage our Middle Years Program students and help raise awareness of the different career paths that are out there in the real world. LISTENING MINDFULLY

Listening is often overlooked as a communication skill and so I like to begin here to remind the children that this is really a big part of collaborative discussions. We need to be able to listen to respond to others rather than listening to react.

And so, a simple but effective activity for all ages that can be done indoors or outdoors is to just simply stop and listen. If you throw in a few guiding questions, these can help the children to focus.

• How far can you hear?
• Can you hear anything outside the classroom/beyond the playground?
• What is the quietest sound you heard?
• Which man-made sounds do you hear?
• What do hear coming from nature?
• Which parts of your own body can you hear?

ACCOUNTABLE TALK

Accountable talk is an important part of developing conversation skills. It involves:

• stretching the children’s repertoire of answers
• enabling discussions to become more in depth
• supports justifying answers
• promotes acceptance of perspective.

New | Mid-Year Student ViewPoint Survey of School Food for Aramark-managed schools

Nutrition Support Services is calling on students to give their feedback on School Food! Please use the Mid Year Student ViewPoint Survey of School Food link to do so. Participation will help Nutrition Support Services and Aramark improve their food service program. This survey is for schools that are managed by Aramark only and will remain open until Friday, March 10, 2023. Please email food@cps.edu with any questions or concerns.

Having difficulty paying for field trips or student fees in Aspen? Checking your child's grades?

• Aspen Parent Portal is different from Aspen Student Portal
• Student Fees can only be paid through the Aspen Parent Portal
• If you do not have an ASPEN Parent Portal account please fill out the New ASPEN Parent Portal Account, so that Sally Suarez can start the process for you.
• If you are locked out of your ASPEN Parent Portal due to forgetting password or username please fill out this ASPEN Parent Portal Password Reset.

Attached is a PDF with step by step instructions on how to create your ASPEN Parent Portal account once you receive an invitation from ASPEN. The Services and Supports web page has video resources.

Only one ASPEN Parent Portal account is needed to access information for all of your CPS student(s), you can add multiple students to the same parent account.
