St. Luke Community,

As Truth and Reconciliation week begins tomorrow our students will build on their understanding regarding the challenges and injustices both historical and current, that Indigenous Peoples in Canada face every day. Understanding the stories of the indigenous people allows students to become part of the reconciliation process as they learn about the truths, history and legacy of Residential Schools and recognize Every Child Matters.

I encourage everyone on Wednesday to wear an orange shirt to show that Every Child Matters as we "set aside a day that we honour all the children who survived residential schools, as well as honour and recognize those who did not return.” (Brenda Gunn)

Loving God, our Creator; help us to be living signs of your healing love.

Open our hearts to respect, to welcome, to care for and to include one another.

Open our mouths to speak up about the terrible wrongs of the past and the wrongs that continue to occur.

Let us during this time and always; lead with compassion to bring hope to our world.

Lord, give us the courage to stand up for the dignity of our Indigenous brothers and sisters, and of those with roots in other lands, all of us; created in Your image. Every Child matters.

Strengthen us in our walk together. God of Truth, let honesty guide our steps along the path of truth and reconciliation, of healing and friendship.

Grant us the wisdom to recognize and to celebrate the beautiful gifts of our Indigenous cultures.

May we go forward with humility as the children of One Creator and loving members of God’s family.

We are the body of Christ and each one of us is a part of it, each one of us matters. Every Child Matters.

We make these prayers in your holy name.

Through Christ our Lord.

Please look at the New checklist. The Alberta Daily Screening You will notice one big change:

Has your child been a household contact of a case2 of COVID-19 in the last 14 days? A household contact: a person who lives in the same residence as the case OR who has been in frequent, long-duration, close-range interaction with a case of COVID-19. For example, siblings, someone who slept over, or someone who provided direct physical care to the child.

If the answer is “YES” AND they are NOT fully immunized. Child should stay home and NOT attend school, childcare and/or other activities for 14 days from the last day of exposure and monitor for symptoms.

To increase accessibility to COVID-19 vaccines, immunizations will be available AT ST. LUKE for students in grades 7 and 8 as well as teachers and staff on October 1st, 2021. Parent or guardian consent for students will be required through this consent form (https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/frm-21834.pdf) and will need to be completed and returned to the school.Your child can get a dose of Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA COVID-19 vaccine in school if they:

• have never had a COVID-19 vaccine (this will be their first dose)
• had their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 3 weeks ago (this will be their second dose)

Students in grades 7 to 12 do not need to wait for an in-school clinic to be vaccinated. Bookings for first and second doses are available provincewide. Albertans can book appointments through AHS online, by calling 811 or through participating pharmacies. First-dose walk-in clinics are available at multiple locations.

I encourage parents and guardians to arrange vaccine appointments for themselves and their children as soon as possible. This will help further strengthen protection in schools and benefit all youth, whether or not they can be immunized yet.” Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health

Library is underway and the students have been so excited to choose their books for the week. Please remember that books are to be returned every library class and kept in good condition.
