A FEW REMINDERS FOR PARENTS~

REMIND

LUNCH NUMBER

Each student has a six digit student number. This number will be used to purchase lunch and to sign onto the computer throughout their senior year. It's an important number to know for school. Please help your child to practice this number, it's easier for kids to remember the number if broken into two sets three digits each set i.e. 222 444 rather than all six digits. If you are not sure of your child's student number you can find it on HAC.


Family Photos

Please send in your family photo with names of sibilings. We all but 4 and I afraid these 4 are feeling a bit left out…;-)


Transportation Home

Thank you for keeping pick up directions SIMPLE and CONSISTENT!

As you know frequent changes in pick plans are difficult for us all, now imagine being a first grader with 125 other first graders all tired and a bit overwhelmed standing in one hall trying to get out the right door to the right place- YIKES! As a team Mrs. Mere, Mrs. Carr, Mrs. Nixon and I split the kids by the way they go home and escort them to their assigned dismissal location. This is a challenge and one we don't take lightly. Please be kind and avoid changes in plans when at all possible!

Reader's Workshop

We are Simply Wild about Books. We searched the room for a few books, scurried to a quiet place and curled up in some reading! Todd Parr says Reading Makes You Feel Good and we agree! Young Writers, New Beginnings

Shoes are…. Optional

It typically takes a bit longer for this rumor to be be revealed, but this year it happened week one! Student "My neighbor said you can take off your shoes in this class. Can we?" Me "Sure, but…" "Justin jumps up and places his shoes neatly by the door (keeping with Japanese culture) and shoes were off! The catch is to take off your shoes you must be about to tie them!

Where's My Seat?

Work mats are educational placements. Work mats provide students with literacy resources on the front and math resources on the back. Family photos are also added to the mat to help students feel more comfortable and help inspire writing ideas. Work mats are placed out each morning indicating where the student will sit for the day. This helps me to place students where they will be most successful.

Media Center

Kids took their first visit to the media center as first graders this week. Media Center visits in first grade are on a flex schedule. Kids can go in groups of 4 during independent workshop time. This provides students 3-5 times per day they visit the media center. This year students will be able to check out 2 books, as long as the other 2 are returned. I suggest returning any books brought home from school to the book bag when finished reading. This will allow kids flexibility in visiting the media center.

Fire Drill!

Friday was our first fire drill and all the kids were PROFESSIONAL! Exiting building quickly and waiting quietly- Way to go!
