Free or Reduced-Priced Meals
Please complete this application to see if you and your family qualify for additional educational benefits. The information collected from this form could help your family and the North View community by providing additional academic support (reading and math interventions), field trip opportunities, technology supports, opportunities to participate in district activities, access to county resources, and free breakfast and lunch while at school.
In the past, this form may have been referred to as the Application for Free and Reduced Meals, but there are many more benefits connected to this form including potential funding or discounts for North View Middle School. You may recall that you have previously filled out this form, but each school is required to have families complete the form every year with updated information. Please complete this application by following one of the steps below.
Online through SmartSchoolK12 – This option will create a family account allowing online access to view meal accounts and pay online for meals.
Online at this link – This option will bypass making a family account and allow you to fill out the form.
Complete a paper copy of the form. Forms are available at North View Middle School in the main office or in the cafeteria with the kitchen staff.
Assessment Results
As for our students' performance on last year's Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) our building met our growth targets at all three grade levels in reading. As a building, we were one index point away from meeting our math goal with our sixth graders performing the strongest and meeting their grade level goal.
As a result of this progress, our educators will continue to work hard on behalf of our students by:
- Reflecting on the data and student feedback.
- Creating or re-committing to action steps to support positive student outcomes.
- Participating in goal setting with students.
You too can help support positive student outcomes for our students. Consider having conversations with your child about the importance of taking tests like these seriously and persisting through the testing experience even when things get hard.
October Parent-Teacher Conferences
Thank you to everyone for attending our planning conferences in August. Our goal was to provide you with the opportunity to meet the staff, see the school, and receive an overview of class expectations and the year's curriculum. Our most recent Talking Points suggest that we were able to meet those expectations for most families. Ninety percent of participants stated that, yes we did meet our goal. Our next step as a building is to connect with those families that did not have an ideal experience to determine how we can improve.
Coming up next for you is our first trimester conferences. This year we will be providing families with both an in-person conference experience and a virtual conference experience. Our in-person conferencing experience will be held on Tuesday, October 18th from 3:00-7:00 pm. During this time you will be able to:
Meet each of your child's teachers.
Review classroom objectives and goals.
Discuss how your child is progressing in class.
Our virtual experience will be held on Thursday, October 27th from 3:00-7:00 pm. During this time you will be able to:
Set an appointment to meet with your child's advisory teacher using the Google Meets platform.
Review classroom objectives and goals.
Discuss how your child is progressing in each of their classes.
A link to schedule the virtual conference will be sent out by your child’s advisory teacher the week of October 17th for scheduling purposes.
* Spanish & Hmong Translators will be available.

DISTRICT PLANNING ADVISORY COUNCIL (DPAC)
The district needs parents/guardians from each middle school to serve on the District Planning Advisory Council (DPAC). The District Planning Advisory Council (DPAC) provides community and ISD 279 staff involvement in planning for and evaluating existing instructional programs. DPAC membership is based on interest, not educational expertise.
Meetings may be held virtually through Google Meet and at the Educational Services Center (11200 93rd Ave North, Maple Grove) with the first meeting being held on October 17th. Subcommittees may, at their discretion, schedule additional meetings or extend their meeting.
Committee Structure
DPAC operates with subcommittees. DPAC members select the subcommittee on which they want to serve. The previous year's subcommittees with brief descriptions are listed below:
- Achievement & Evaluation: Members of the Achievement & Evaluation Subcommittee advises the district on student assessments, achievement expectations, and the levels of achievement reached by ISD 279 students. The group examines multiple sources of information, including data from standardized tests. Analyzing trends over time, the subcommittee recommends priorities for improving achievement in certain curricular areas and student populations.
- Program & Assessment: This subcommittee offers input and advice to subject areas in the pre-assessment phase of the Program Improvement Process. Typically, the subcommittee focuses on one of the subject areas that is in the pre-assessment phase. Activities include gathering information, identifying trends, analyzing needs, and preparing recommendations. In addition to being included in the DPAC report to the School Board, these recommendations are forwarded to the assessment team for that subject area.
- Student Services: This subcommittee reviews the student support service areas which enhance and supplement regular education programs. The service may be directed to a student or groups of students and/or consultation to regular education classroom and leadership staff. Typically, this subcommittee will select one or two areas to review and make recommendations for improvement. The student support service areas are as follows: Community Education, Counseling and Guidance, Health Services, Media, Special Education, and Gifted Education.
For additional information, please feel free to visit this link on our district website. If you are interested in being involved, please complete the District Planning Advisory Council Volunteer Form. Thank you in advance for considering this opportunity.
