PennDOT Innovations Challenge
PennDOT reminds you that the December 18 deadline to enter the Innovations Challenge is rapidly approaching.
Students in grades 9-12 are invited to participate in the fourth PennDOT Innovations Challenge, which encourages students to use their problem-solving, creative and strategic-thinking abilities to solve real-world transportation challenges in a competition among their peers.
This year’s Innovations Challenge asks students to develop an innovative and implementable solution that helps address Pennsylvania’s transportation revenue shortfall by identifying potential new funding streams, aside from additional gas taxes, tolls or mileage-based user fees, to help ensure adequate transportation funding for the future.
The Transportation Policy and Education Foundation, an educational arm of the Associated Pennsylvania Constructors (APC), the American Council of Engineering Companies of PA (ACEC/PA) and the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) are providing a combined total award of $5,500 to be divided among the first, second and third place statewide winning teams.
Visit the PennDOT Innovations Challenge webpage for more information, including the online submission form.
For questions or more information, email PennDOT’s Bureau of Innovations at DOTInnovations@pa.gov.

There are no parents/spectators allowed indoors at practices. In addition, masks are required at all times, including during competition. The PA mask order was updated last week to include those participating in indoor physical activity in a gym, fitness center, where another person or persons who are not members of the individual’s household are present in the same space, irrespective of physical distance.
Be sure to download the Activity Scheduler App from the Apple App Store or get in on Google Play, so you will know when all your favorite sports teams are playing. You’ll never miss a game again.

Winter Sports Spectator Policy
Sportsmanship, while important for the participants of a sporting activity, is also of the highest importance for the spectator as well. The center of attention during an athletic event should be on the game and its participants, not on any spectator who causes a disturbance or makes comments because of a disagreement with an official’s call or a coach’s decision. It is the duty of event security to maintain appropriate conduct of spectators. Inappropriate actions will be dealt with quickly and swiftly, with progressive enforcement up to and including ejection of an unruly spectator. Spectators ejected by an official will be immediately removed from the premises by event security and law enforcement.
Effective beginning of the 2020-2021 winter sports season, the following consequences will be issued to spectators (adult or student) who causes a disturbance and/or is removed from athletic contests:
- First Offense – the removed spectator will be banned from attending the next competition in that sport, and will continue to be banned from all competitions involving LTHS teams until they present to the Athletic Director satisfactory completion of the NFHS Sportsmanship course.
- Second Offense – the removed spectator will be banned from attending ANY LTHS athletic contests, for a period of 14 days (beginning with the date of removal). Should the season end before the 14-day period ends, the consequence will be carried over into the next sports season (i.e. Fall to Winter), with the count resuming on the day of the first scheduled athletic contest of that season.
- Third Offense – the removed spectator will be banned from attending ANY LTHS athletic contests, for a period of 45 days (beginning with the date of removal). Should the season end before the 45-day period ends, the consequence will be carried over into the next sports season (i.e. Fall to Winter), with the count resuming on the day of the first scheduled athletic contest of that season.
- Fourth and Subsequent Offenses – the removed spectator will be banned from attending ANY LTHS athletic contests for a period of one calendar year (beginning with the date of removal).
Exceptions WILL NOT be made for special events, including Senior night. Attempts to enter a contest from which the spectator is banned will be viewed as trespassing, and law enforcement will be called should the banned spectator refuse to leave the premises. The banned spectator will also be immediately subjected to the next offense in the sequence (i.e. should a spectator that is banned for 14 days attempt to enter an athletic contest during that 14-day period, that spectator will now be banned for 45 days, starting from the date of the second infraction).
Alumni News
Tyler Bogaczyk ~ Class of 2011
Tyler Bogaczyk, MD Class of 2023 & Abigail Geisinger Scholar, was working at Geisinger as a research assistant when he heard that The Commonwealth Medical College would integrate into the health system and become Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. “It got my attention right away,” he said. “Given my background and already being a member of the Geisinger family, I could envision myself there.”
As a student at Bucknell University, Tyler learned about 3D printing technology in Bucknell’s “MakerSpace." “I stumbled upon 3D printing right after my college graduation and became fascinated with the technology. I wanted to continue working with 3D printers, so I went out and bought my own to start a small 3D printing business.”
Tyler decided to pursue a master of biomedical studies degree in Philadelphia. While there, he met two other like-minded students who joined his effort to find a community impact project that utilized 3D printing. By combining their passions for medicine and Tyler’s 3D printer, the three of them established the first Philadelphia based chapter of e-NABLE, an international nonprofit that connects individuals with 3D printers to clients in need of prosthetic limbs and assistive devices.

School Updates & Reminders
COVID Safety Reminders - Mask & Travel Update
Masks - an updated order has been issued by the Secretary of the PA Department of Health. The District WILL follow this new order. Please click here to read through the order.
Travel - Essentially, anyone travelling out of state must quarantine for a period of 14 days unless they get tested within 72 hours prior to returning to Pennsylvania and have a negative test. This includes travel to all states outside of Pennsylvania. Please refer to the PA Department of Health frequently asked questions for guidance on holiday travel.
Please don't hesitate to contact us should you require any further information or clarification.
Masks and face coverings are most definitely not comfortable, but are our new reality. We want to focus our time at school on learning, building positive relationships and keeping each other safe and healthy. Thank you for encouraging a positive attitude from your child.
1. Student will be asked by a staff member to put on the mask and cover required areas.
2. If student refuses, and administrator will ask the student to put on the mask.
3. If student refuses, parent/guardian will be contacted.
4. If a student continues to refuse, they will be placed in isolated area away from others or need to be picked up by guardian.
Please remember to wear your mask, wash your hands and maintain a distance of 6 feet from others whenever possible.
There will be no tolerance for intentionally trying to spread germs or any type of related behavior. If this should happen, parents will be contacted. Again, our focus is on learning and safety. We want to maximize every moment we are at school. Thank you for your support!
