Malden Out-of-School Time Program
Session 2: January 3-March 24, 2023
🎉We kicked the new year off in style! #2023
Salemwood School-Nickeisha Dolley
Spring has finally Sprung! We ended 2022 with our Holiday Party and thoughts of making tons of new memories in 2023. Right after we got back from Winter break, we started our second session of clubs, and the students were instantly having an amazing time. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to the first few months of the new year...
In an effort to support students develop social responsibility, determine what matters to them in a classroom, and take responsibility for upholding those values, we established a Classroom Contract. Both students and staff worked together to set and maintain agreed upon guidelines. Students continued to receive WOW tickets for demonstrating good behavior, giving a helping hand, and working together as a team. Our kids are inspired to be the greatest versions of themselves everyday.
This session we welcomed a new outside provider KidStock!, a creative theater class with Mr. Peter. The kids had a blast. It was very wonderful to see their creativity come through!
Mrs. Whitney's K-1 crew enjoyed trying new clubs and developing new skills! Bingo Math was a big hit as some have learned to play bingo for the first time while others racked up lots of prizes. In Just Legos, students used their imagination to create some incredible structures, and others practiced mindfulness and showed off their advanced moves in Yoga.
2nd - 3rd students studied creatures they don't typically see thanks to Mrs. Zahid's awesome Animal Planet lessons. In Measure Around the School, they had fun exploring the building and measuring everything from doors to tables and tiles. In Weather Club, they built their very own windmill and put it to the test.
Ms. Christiana's 2nd-3rd grade Crafts Club had students learning everything from the art of origami to writing Chinese characters. They were incredibly proud of their work.
In Mrs. Esposito 2nd-3rd grade Recycled Art Club students were given recycled supplies and were challenged to come up with something new every week. They tapped into their creative sides and they rose to the challenge and exceeded expectations.
Mrs. Esposito's 4th-6th graders learned the importance of keeping our body and minds active and calm in Yoga and Mindfulness Club. In Book Club students read A Dog’s Life and were rewarded by getting to watch the movie on the last day. In our No Bake Cooking Club the students were excited to learn how to cook sweet and savory treats. Board Games were a lot of fun, students showed their competitive side and also good sportsmanship.
To our 3 students of the month who have demonstrated Compassion, Participation, and Most Effort...Congratulations! Special thanks to our staff for showing up each day and making it such a great learning experience for our students!

Beebe School-Juliana Reznichenko
Session 2 at Beebe was incredible! Our teachers worked very hard to create fun, engaging and educational clubs. We had a few cold and rainy days but that did not stop us from having fun! Here are some of the clubs and activities we did these past few months:
Ms. Malo & Ms. Nadege - In the Math Zone Club, students did several hands-on activities. They rolled dice to make and solve addition problems, raced to 100, made number chains and played number Bingo. These interactive games build friendships and memorable moments.
Ms. Bacon - Our Better Together class focused on building friendships and social and emotional skills. Students learned different strategies to manage their emotions, while displaying leadership and resolving conflicts through play. Team building activities like Silent Balloons was the crowd favorite! In March, our older students partnered up with the younger students as reading buddies. This was a good way to have all the grades interact and work together as a team. In our Just Do It Club, students participated in different sports and physical challenges. Basketball was the popular choice and students learned that teamwork and communication made a big difference when playing. We introduced Bowling and had two competing teams. Everyone shared in executing the game by taking turns with keeping score, setting up the pins, working together and cheering on their teammates!
Ms. Bezzat - In the Art Club, students worked on different art pieces each week and brought out their inner artist! Students enjoyed the Color Collages Project where they cut out different colors from magazines to make a poster of warm and cool hues. We also explored painting with different textures using random objects, rubbings with different textures from around the school, and making 3D art sunflowers with tissue paper and black beans. Our 3rd-6th graders were interested in more sophisticated projects that involved multiple steps and varied forms of art that will be displayed at our Showcase at the end of the school year. Students were open to try new things when as they worked together and learned the value of kindness and support.
Mr. Michael - Students loved the Board Game Club. They were introduces to new games and played classic favorites like Chess and Mancala. They also made their own board games and an this session “Guess in 10” was particularly popular.
In Kids Test Kitchen, MOST Beebe students created sweet and savory recipes. They made Eggless Crepes from scratch that were so yummy that they shared the recipe with their families so they could have it again at home! Another hit was the Sweet and Salty Popcorn. They couldn’t believe how good melted chocolate tasted all over their warm popcorn!
Another highlight was a visit from Curious Creatures!. Students were thrilled to see, touch, pet and learn about all the animals. We took lots of pictures to share with families and of course post in our newsletter.
This past session was an amazing time together! We can't wait for Session 3!

Forestdale School
Session 2 kicked off at the Forestdale right after the New Year.
We were fortunate to have a few new awesome staff join our team which allowed us to enroll additional students! We now have two K-2 groups, in addition to our 2nd-4th grade group and our 4th-6th grade group.
Our younger students engaged in Art Thief, Foreign Book Club, STEM Club, Space Club and Disney Club. In Art Thief students learned about famous artists and created their own masterpieces using the artist’s techniques. At the beginning of each week, Foreign Book Club took this crew traveling around the world where they learned about other countries and cultures. Then towards the end of each week they launched off to space to explore the planets in Space Club.
Our new K-2 crew participated in Puppet Show Club, Arts and Crafts Club and STEM Club. The Puppet Show Club was a group favorite where students made their own puppets and acted out traditional children’s stories. At the end of the session they even created their own stories which they loved! STEM Club was another hit with this crew as they engaged in hands on activities, one of their favorites was navigating a maze with a marble.
This session our 2nd-4th grade group participated in Art Thief, Game Board Club, Escape Room Club and Drama Club. Teamwork and critical thinking skills were essential for the Escape Room Club where students worked together in teams to beat the clock! This crew also had a special guest teacher each week from KidStock! Theater where they engaged in fun games and explored different ways to tell stories.
Our older students enjoyed Drama Club, Dessert Club, Comic Book Club, and Minute to Win It
challenges. In Comic Book Club students got to pick their own topics and make silly comics. They were very creative and took great pride in their individual work. The pressure was definitely on in Minute to Win It (daunting music included) where students engaged in fun mini challenges both individually and as a team to either win bragging rights or a small prize, of course all within a minute!
We have also had a whopping 3 half day Fridays this session! Special activities included visits from a Gaming Truck and BuildWave which engaged students in hands on building challenges with different materials like Legos and Plus Plus blocks. Both activities were a huge success!
Our crew definitely is looking forward to the next session and the warm spring weather!

Linden School Christian Strand
Older students participated in an Entrepreneur Club which offered the opportunity to work on designing their own product and practice writing a business plan. Digital Animation club was also a highlight at the Linden. These clubs helped students build 21st Century skills including critical thinking, communication, collaboration, problem solving and creativity to name a few.
It's fun to have special guests come to our program on half days and our favorite half day activities have been the Gaming Truck and BuildWave! And pizza...of course! 🍕
We are looking forward to more outdoor time this Spring and choosing new clubs in Session 3! Stay tuned for more adventures from the Linden in our next edition.
