Thank you so much for your work on connecting with our teachers during conferences. We are excited to share your student's successes and work together to help them in areas they need support.

Arrival Procedures

Our district is no longer requiring temperature checks in the morning before students enter. We ask that parents screen their children before coming to school. If students have a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, they should stay home and parents should contact the school at 973-8250 to report the absence.

Call Office for Change to Dismissal Procedure

If you plan to change how you normally pick up your student, please contact the school at 973-8250 to let the office know. They will then report that to the teacher, and latchkey or bus if needed. Please do not email the teacher, as they may be gone and not able to get the message to the right person. Our system works when you call the office to let us know of something different for the day.

Snow Days - Weather Updates

Please be sure that you have updated phone numbers in Parent Vue. In the case of a snow day, the district will send information to families using Parent Link, which ties directly to the Parent Vue phone numbers you have listed. They will also post the school closures on news stations listed under USD 259 - Wichita Public Schools. They do not list by school name.

Student Absences

Thank you so much for the great attendance our Onsite students have! At this time, we have the best percentage in the district! Keep up the great work.

Conferences

Thank you so much to our PTA that provided a wonderful luncheon for the staff during our long day. It was delicious. The snacks and drinks from families during the week were a welcomed surprise...thank you for thinking of us! We were close to our 100% participation in conferences. Parents, if you did not conference with your teacher, please call to set up a time.

In the library, the kindergartners and 1st graders have been working on story elements such as characters and setting. First through 5th grade have started lessons about digital citizenship. The curriculum focuses how to stay safe online, making good choices when using the internet, balancing time spent on devices with other activities, cyberbullying, and how to keep online games fun and friendly. Some of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders practiced using the online Kansas library do some research and create powerpoint presentations. And of course, we’ve spent time reading our books.

Fifth grade/Stamps is wrapping up a unit on Stars and Space. They are creating their own constellations. Look for their Flipgrid soon!

Fourth grade has completed a unit on information transfer and binary code. They are currently learning about space.

4/5 Leonard students are creating parachutes to learn about gravity and will also learn a bit more about space.

Third grade has completed their study of honeybees. Ms. Walker’s class created a Flipgrid to capture their learning. Currently students are learning about why animals often live in groups.

Kindergarten, First and Second graders have been using Seesaw to capture their learning. Be sure to check out the Music/Science Seesaw page for your students.

It has been a great first semester in art class. Students are adjusting well to the new procedure of Special teachers coming into their classrooms to teach. They are also doing a good job of keeping their mask on and social distancing. Their first project was to color their art folder which they will use throughout the school year to keep their artwork in. They are now learning about the Elements of Art. Kindergarten through Third grade are learning about lines and how artist use various types of lines in their artwork; straight, wavy, zig zag and loop lines to name a few. Kindergarten and First grade listened to the book Lines that Wiggle by Candace Whitman to inspire their line drawing. Second and Third grade used a variety of lines to color and fill their page. Fourth and Fifth grade drew and colored all the Elements of Art; lines, shapes, color, space form and texture.

Art News: MySchoolRemote

Greetings! Though we are not singing, for health and safety, we are still learning and improving our other music skills. Rhythm, dancing, a growing knowledge of instruments and the science of sound are some of the topics in Music Class every day. I’m especially proud of our younger students, who are doing a fabulous job reading and playing rhythms. They will be quite the drummers someday. I hope you are all doing well and encouraging your students to sing when they are at home!

This year with not being able to use the gym for PE we are having class outside or in the classroom. In order to get the most out of Physical Education class, as well as providing safe conditions for physical activity; I recommend your child wear appropriate clothing and shoes. Shoes that are designed for physical activity and provide good foot support are required. Athletic shoes are a good example of proper footwear. Also need to be wearing clothing that is appropriate for the different kinds of weather. We will try to go outside if the weather is not to cold and wet. Remote

Just wanted to first say I have really enjoyed trying to do all this remote stuff and finding ways to get your children up and moving even if I don't have them here at school. One thing I could really use some help with from you has parents is to help in making sure they are participating in the activities that I have them doing during class. I am not asking them to do a lot but the stuff I am asking is really going to go a long way for them since most of their grade is going to be from them participating during class. PTA Memberships: If you want to have a say in how PTA raises and spends money, please consider joining. Dues are $5, and you can join at any time. We support Kansas PTA and the National PTA with a large portion of our membership dues; this allows them to lobby our lawmakers on behalf of your children. Our PTA has short term and long-term opportunities to support students. We are always happy to have new members. We are proud to be WildCats at McLean because we exhibit a large amount of parent and community participation.
