PYP NEWSLETTER April 2022
FROM PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Bodhians,
Bodhi, an abode of learning, is always abuzz with stimulating activities for learners; April 2022 was no different. We started the month with a kids carnival giving a stage for the young talents in Jodhpur. The primary years' program celebrated World Health Day, World Earth Day, to inculcate the importance of health and earth through thought-provoking activities. The importance of reading was ingrained in young minds through a DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) program. The middle and secondary division was not far behind with their inter-house One-Act Play competition displaying their command over literature and drama. The partakers among middle and senior school Bodhians had a field day with the Constitution Quiz and current affairs. It was an enriching experience for the audience as they too learned a lot about the Indian constitution and current affairs. Armed with the experience of being part of all the above activities, Bodhians went about choosing their council.
Bodhi's student council has started their work in earnest with a brainstorming session with the school board on ways of improving their experiences. As we are about to have our summer vacation, teachers have put together intellectually stimulating holiday assignments to ensure learners have a purposeful vacation. Bodhi is also offering a summer school with a plethora of activities ranging from sports to photography, to aid the skill development of the local community. I urge you to evaluate the offerings and make use of this wonderful opportunity.
As an educationist, the developments in the city over the last few days have disturbed me, but am confident, with our pedagogy, Bodhi is in the process of creating global leaders who will work for peace and development, imbibed with the core values of Bodhi namely, Confidence, Acceptance, Respect and Empathy. Wishing all in the Bodhi family, a safe and enriching summer vacation 2022.

Baisakhi Celebration
To celebrate this harvest festival and Sikh's new year, children were all dressed up in traditional Punjabi attire and brought some Punjabi dishes as well. They get to know why we celebrate Baisakhi and wrote their reflection on it. They also learnt the famous Punjabi dance Gidda. To end the celebration with joy and happiness all the students of PYP and staff members dance on the beats of Punjabi dhol and gave good wishes to each other.
DEAR Week
Drop Everything And Read. Children dropped everything to read. And during this, they picked some things up. Their young minds were energized by playing passing the parcel and reading paragraphs
Children had different kinds of reading attention and focus for longer texts and shorter texts. It helped to plan stopping places in our longer books and have some texts ready for briefer break reads. Articles, short stories, and poems were good texts for this kind of reading.
Children understood cause and effect, identified problems and solutions/resolutions, retold the most important information within a chapter or across a book, and visualized where the story takes place
World Earth Day
April 22 is Earth Day, a worldwide holiday where people come together to support environmental protection and pledge to better co-exist with nature. Earth Day began in 1969, when peace activist John McConnell proposed that March 21, the world spend a single day honoring the Earth and celebrating peace. It was sanctioned by the United Nations, and a month after the first celebration, the United States declared April 22 as the official Earth Day.
We at Bodhi International School celebrated Earth Day on the theme “Our Planet, Our Future”. In each grade learners portrayed their perception indulging into different activities. Early years at Bodhi narrated Story, learners were involved in role play and craft. Grade 1 - 4 decided different activities to celebrate earth day like growing plants, watering plants with plastic bottles, creating an Earthly reminder, best out of waste. Grade 5 made slogans / posters to spread awareness about use of resources. In Addition to this Grade 4B’s School Assembly students prepared a role play on their understanding of the Universe (Big Bang Theory), formation of solar system and movement of earth around the sun (rotation and revolution). Students took pledge on protecting our environment or promote world peace. They learned to take care of planet by saving water, recycling trash and reusing items.
Don’t forget to “go green” always and let’s celebrate our beautiful planet with friends and family!
