Onekawa School Newsletter
Week 6, Term 1, Thursday 10 March
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora Parents and Caregivers
This week's newsletter is going out on a Thursday as school is closed tomorrow for a teacher only day.
Teachers and support staff are continuing their professional development tomorrow around 'structured literacy'. This is being facilitated by Massey University. We have been delighted with the positive impact it is already having on our learners school wide.
We are increasingly being impacted by Covid 19 in the community. From what we can determine, there has been no in-school spread of the virus. We have a growing amount of students who are isolating because they are household contacts however. Less than ten of these children have tested postive while at home.
We have four staff members isolating due to being household contacts but we are lucky that we have been able to cover their absence so far.
Thanks for letting us know when your child is absent and telling us why they are not at school. This helps us to get a picture of how we are being impacted by Covid 19.
If your child is isolating in Years 4-6, hybrid learning is available via Google Classroom. If your child hasn't got a school chrome book at home please contact their teacher. If your child is isolating in Years 1-3, activities will be posted via Seesaw. If you have any questions please contact the teacher.
Have a lovely weekend.

Steve

Term One Learning Conferences
All children’s learning folders will be sent home in week 10. These are a snap shot of what your children’s learning looks like on a day to day basis at Onekawa School.
In addition to sending home learning folders, we would like to invite parents to have a phone conversation with our teachers to talk about your child’s learning during Week 10 or 11.
We will be sending details about how to book a phone conversation in a few weeks time.
Congratulations to this week's certificate winners from Manaaki and Manawanui syndicates
Room 5's Pizza Ovens
Room 5 are wondering about the Sun and how it effects us.
The technology challenge was to use pizza boxes to make pizza ovens and see if the solar energy would melt the marshmallows.
Great team work, discussions, wondering and yummy marshmallows!
