Fall / Winter 2023
Quarter 2
We made it to our 2nd quarter for the 2023-2024 school year! I appreciate your continued support as we navigate through this new year with changes and new staff on campus! Your support and understanding is invaluable to our school's success! As we reflect on our productive start to the school year, we realized we completed quarter one, with total of 52 days! Tons of learning, projects, friendships and growth happened in Quarter 1 and we are excited as we are hard at work again and half way through Quarter 2!
Make sure to get involved and stay on top of all the events this quarter. Teachers send out Newsletters, follow us on Social media, Facebook and Instagram. As always we are a team and we all want our students to be successful and have an amazing experience learning and growing every day.
Rebuilding Hartford
As shared in the past, Hartford will be the next school in the district to be rebuilt beginning in the next year or two. This decision is part of Chandler Unified School Districts commitment to ensuring that Hartford Sylvia Encinas remains at the forefront of providing an exceptional education for your children.
We are excited to announce that we will be embarking on the rebuilding planning process starting this month.
Key points about the rebuilding process:
1. Timeline: The planning process will officially kick off November 14th from 4pm-6pm. We do not have an exact date at this time of when construction will begin, but we will begin the planning process.
2. Community Involvement: We are committed to keeping our community informed and involved throughout every stage of the rebuilding process. Regular updates will be shared out. If you would like to join us in the planning process and learn more, please come to the first meeting this Tuesday November 14th from 4pm-6pm.
As always, follow us on Social Media, School newsletters and classroom newsletters for the latest updates. Feel free to email me with any questions. honne.ines@cusd80.com

District School Calendars
First and foremost, I am happy to announce that the calendars for the next five years have been approved by the CUSD School Board and are now available on the district website https://www.cusd80.com/Calendar. This resource will help you plan your vacations, summers and other important dates within our educational community.
Attendance
Research indicates that small improvements in attendance can yield large gains in academic performance. Please emphasize with your student the link between attendance and success by making sure that they miss as few days as possible. When students miss a day of school (for any reason) they miss a lot! Even students who complete their make-up work cannot replicate the activities and experiences they miss in class. If a student must be absent, a parent/guardian should notify the school every day of the absence. Please call the attendance line and leave a message for our Registrar.
Being on-time sets the tone for effective learning and reduces disruptions for our classroom communities. You may monitor your student’s attendance using Infinite Campus.
Most of the district communication is done via the internet. We encourage all families to create an email and share that information with the school. Grades, emergency notification, school announcements and other important information is shared through Infinite Campus. Families are encouraged to set up an account. https://campus.cusd80.com/campus/services/createParentPortal.jsp
Tax Credit
Tax Credit donations help students become involved in fun, meaningful and life-enhancing activities like extra-curricular enrichment programs, athletics, or field trips. Eligible contributions are donated directly to schools, not to the state or the school district and are a full refund, not a deduction. Arizona law enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per calendar year if filing status is Married, filing Joint Return; $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is Single or Head of Household. By making a tax credit donation, you are saying how you want your tax dollars spent. To donate or to learn more, visit our website: Parent Resources / Tax Credit and Student Fee Payment Menu (cusd80.com)
Uniforms
We are a uniform school. All students are required to wear a standard uniform on Monday-Thursday. On Fridays, students may wear a school spirit shirt or other school-related shirt. If you need assistance with uniforms, please see our parent liaison. We provide each student with one free uniform at the beginning of each year. SHIRT– red, white or solid navy blue collared shirt. PANTS/SHORTS/JUMPER– khaki or navy blue . On the first Friday of each month, students may pay $1 to have free dress (district dress code policies apply). NO ripped jeans please.
SHOES– close-toed shoes - Students should wear tennis shoes when participating in PE.
Birthday Policy
Birthdays are special days for students and due to our participation in the Alliance for a Healthier Generation we will celebrate birthdays without food as part of the school celebration. Please do not send cupcakes or any other food items for birthdays. Not only will this eliminate many unhealthy treats, this decision has secondary benefits such as time taken from instruction for teachers to serve, find utensils, monitor and manage food. This will also eliminate concerns about allergies and other food restrictions. We will leave the hosting of birthday parties, cake, cupcakes, for each family to celebrate at home. On your child’s special day, students may bring a small token for their classmates, such as a pencil, eraser, gel pen, etc. to share with classmates (not required). Parents may also choose to purchase a book to donate to their classroom teacher in honor of their child’s birthday.
PTO
Our PTO works hard to raise funds for our school. Please consider getting involved in PTO. There are a variety of events throughout the year.
Together, we can make an even better school!
