WMS Friday Forecast
August 12, 2022
Dear WMS Parents-
I am so proud of the way our red hawks have started the school year! We are seeing maturity and growth across-the-board. Our hallways are calmer, our students are treating each other with kindness and respect, and we are working with them on what it means to ”belong” at Wredling Middle School. We certainly seem to be over the challenges of past years.
During Covid we saw that students forgot to do some parts of school. Both here and at Thompson Middle School we are working on re-teaching many of those skills. From how to pass in the hallways, how to act in the cafeteria… we are teaching and re-teaching important skills of navigating life in middle school. And so far we are seeing good returns on that investment.
I want to thank you for all the positive notes that I have received about the start of the school year. Many of you have also shared that kindness with our staff. I would encourage you to continue to send positive notes to our staff to lift them up and reinforce how important they are in the lives of our learners. It is important to recognize effort and kindness when it happens.
I am looking forward to an amazing school year. If the rest of the school year continues like this, it will be a fabulous school year.
Enjoy your weekend!
Tim
A Visit from Dr. Paul Gordon
Our new Superintendent, Dr. Paul Gordon, came to Wredling to see us in action. He sat with a group of 8th graders and engaged them about the start to their year. They were excited to meet him and feel his excitement about D303 and Wredling, and he was excited to learn that their first day was great!
Morning Drop-Off
Please help us make the morning drop-off run efficiently. We need each car to:
Pull all the way up to the farthest cone.
Have students exit from the car quickly.
Thank you so much for your help in keeping everyone safe during morning drop-off. It has been a great start!!
ID Expectations
Starting Monday, 8/15, all students will be expected to wear their ID on a lanyard. Replacements cost $5 and replacement fees can add up quickly, we give students two free IDs per year. We work with students to place their ID in their lockers or backpacks at the end of the week. Please help your child remember each Monday morning to have their ID ready to go.
Students should have received a temporary ID on the first or second day of school. After about 2 weeks they will get their permanent ID which should remain in good condition without any marking or damage. Some kids will scratch off their name or face. We need the faces to be clearly visible
SCHOOLOGY
We also have an issue with PE in Schoology. Assignments and grades will not yet show. Please be patient with us as we work towards a solution with this new learning management platform.
New Attendance Codes
We have new attendance codes for the 2022-2023 school year.
Here is a breakdown of the most used attendance codes and what they mean. Please use this chart to better understand your students' attendance record.
i-Ready Diagnostics and PSAT
Students will be taking the first i-Ready Math and Reading Diagnostic Assessments of the school year next week! They will take the Reading i-Ready Diagnostic on Tuesday, August 16th and the Math i-Ready Diagnostic on Thursday, August 18th. We will run a building-wide schedule where students will test from 8:40-11:00 am and then have a schedule that has them attending classes for the remainder of the day.
We will also be offering makeup sessions on Wednesday, August 17th and Friday, August 19th. If students miss these make-up days, we will have students work in completing these assessments the following week during PE, explore/music, and tutorial classes. These tests are given to gather baseline academic data about students in order for us to develop targeted instructional plans of action. A similar assessment will take place in the winter and again in the spring. The results of these assessments are mailed home to families.
For additional information parents can visit the D303 iReady Resource Page or review this letter from our Executive Director of Assessment and Accountability.
Planning ahead...All 8th grade students and 7th graders enrolled in the AVID class will be taking the PSAT on Wednesday, October 12th from 8:40 am - 12:25 pm. Please call the main office if you have any questions.
