The Media Minute
October 2023
Pumpkin Decorating Contest!
Hamilton Avenue’s Media Center is getting into the fall spirit by having a pumpkin decorating contest of your favorite book character! Entries may be dropped off to Mrs. Alfano in the library from Monday, October 23 through Friday, October 27, 2023. Download an entry form here.
Contest Rules:
You may use real or artificial pumpkins.
No carved entries. Pumpkins that have carved, poked, or punctured skin will be disqualified and returned home with the student.
To decorate, you can use paper, glue, paint, marker, fabric or other craft items on the entry.
Projects must represent a book character. On the entry form attached, you must write the title and author of the book.
This is an optional home project and entries should be done mostly by the student. Parents or other family members may assist.
Do not write your name anywhere on the pumpkin. When you bring it to Mrs. Alfano, she will take your pumpkin and entry form and assign it a number.
All projects will be sent home Friday, November 3.
A winner will be chosen from each grade level and will receive a $10.00 Scholastic Book Fair voucher to spend at the Fall 2023 Book Fair. A committee of Ham Ave staff will judge the student entries. Winners will be announced on Friday, November 3 during morning announcements.
Pumpkins MUST be able to be carried by the student into the building.
Digital Safety and Education Lessons Begin
We live in a very connected world and Greenwich Public Schools take internet safety very seriously. Every student in the district will be receiving lessons in online safety and media balance. Each newsletter we will focus on one of the areas of instruction. This time we will be looking at Media Balance and Well-Being.
How can I use media in healthy ways that give meaning and add value to my life?
