St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 8 | 2 December 2022
Message from Geordie
Good afternoon all,
As I stood at the front gates this morning there was a real buzz in the air! Students were walking in excited and enthusiastic about the year ahead and were doing everything they could to get me to spill the beans on their teacher and classmates for next year. Each year group that I read out was met with a cheer of excitement and plenty of smiles. We welcomed a group of new students into the school, and I was so proud of the way our students greeted them and made them feel welcome. It was clear that the consistent, positive messaging from home and school has paid off and it was a lot of fun to be in the classrooms this morning. Please have a chat to your children tonight, remind them that school is a place to deepen friendships, but also to broaden our friendship base. This is one of our strengths as a two-stream school. We will be putting the class lists up via SeeSaw on Monday.
This week we had our Annual Community Meeting which was well attended, a great celebration of a productive year and we kept it to an hour. Huge thanks to all those who attended and to our wonderful P&F and School Advisory Council members who give so much of their time to support our school. The P&F are still looking for a final committee member for next year, please email them directly or let us know in the office if you are keen to be involved. With the P&F becoming a committee of the school, there is far less administrative/compliance and more of a focus on community building!
Our Christmas Concert preparation is now well under way, and I am really looking forward to a relaxed evening on our oval. We will be sending a special newsletter on Monday with all the final details; however, our aim is to keep it simple and enjoy each other’s company. Parents are encouraged to bring a picnic, a few drinks and enjoy the nice weather while they are entertained with a few carols from our amazing students. Look forward to seeing you all there.
Finally, after many tips and tricks from our community last year, I have put my cray pots out again and will be pulling them for the first time on Saturday. I am hoping that there will be some fresh seafood for Christmas!
Have a great weekend, one more fun week to go!

Semester 2 Reports
A reminder that reports will be available via SEQTA after 3:30pm on Wednesday. If you cannot remember your log in or password, please email admin@stbernadettes.wa.edu.au and your log in details will be returned to you.
Once you have logged into Seqta, on the left-hand side (on a handheld device, you will need to select the blue button with three white lines in the top left hand corner) click Assessment, choose which child you would like to view (if you have more than one child on Engage). You will then see that you have access to all previous reports.
If there are any concerns, please contact your child’s teacher via admin@stbernadettes.wa.edu.au to arrange a meeting in week 10.
Curtain University - Children's University
Earlier in the year some of our students from Years 4 - 6 were given the opportunity to be part of the Children’s University for 2022. This is an innovative program run in conjunction with ECU and UWA that engages children and young people in exciting, out-of-school learning opportunities to increase their chances for educational achievement and rewards them for taking responsibility for their own learning.
These students have been doing amazing things all year and will be graduating from this program at a graduation ceremony at Curtain University next week.
Congratulations to all the children and a very big thank you to Mrs Murphy who has worked so hard to deliver this wonderful program.
School Stationery 2023
Booklists for 2023 will follow the same format as last year. The school will purchase all items and the $110 book list levy will cover the cost. This process allows the purchase of consistent and quality items at a discounted price, allows parents to pay this amount at a preferred time (in a lump sum or throughout the year) and allows the stationery to be delivered before the end of this year, to ensure a smooth start to the academic year.
Like previous years, Kindy to Year 2 will continue to share their stationery. The Year 3 to Year 6 students will use their own stationery and at the end of the year, any spare stationery will be sent home. Spare stationery from this year will be sent home in week 7 onwards.
Additional to the booklists students require:
- SBCPS Library Bag from Hip Pocket – Students will not be able to borrow a book in 2023 without this Library Bag.
- A small pencil case (around 10 x 20cm) – Year 3 to 6 students only.
- Headphones (over the ear headphones please!) – Year 3 to 6 students only.
