Procedures for inclement weather situations
Sedalia School District 200 has three options to choose from in the event of inclement weather:
Option 1 – Delayed Start
If inclement weather (ice, snow, etc.) is nearing an end, the District may choose to have a two-hour delayed start. School will begin exactly two (2) hours later than normal starting time. School will be dismissed at the normal dismissal time. This delayed start will allow the street/road/highway crews to clear roads and apply salt, sand, etc. If we use this option, the schools will not be open for student drop off at the regular time.
Buses would run their regular routes exactly two (2) hours later. For example, if the normal bus pick-up time is 6:50 AM, the delayed start pick-up time would be 8:50 AM.
Option 2 – Cancellation
If inclement weather entails extreme conditions (wind chill, excessive snow or ice, etc.) or if travel routes are hazardous, school will be cancelled.
Option 3 – Early Dismissal
If inclement weather moves in during the school day and we believe it would be in the best interest of our students and staff to dismiss early, we will do so. This is usually two (2) hours early but that could change due to the situation.
The district will make the determination to have a delayed start or cancel school before 6 AM. The district will once again utilize voicemail, text and/or email through the Finalsite mass notification system to share updates in the event of inclement weather. The notification system runs through our current student information system, so there is no need for you to sign up. If you feel that you are not receiving pertinent information through this system, please contact the school that your student attends. You can go through the Parent Portal (https://sis.sedalia.k12.mo.us/SD360x3/login) to ensure your contact information is current.
Inclement weather updates also will be posted on the district web site www.sedalia200.org as well as its Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/SedaliaSchoolDistrict200), Twitter/X (@SedaliaSchools) and Instagram (@sedalia_200) pages. It also will be posted to the Sedalia 200 smartphone app (see below).
Parents/guardians will be responsible to make proper arrangements in the event of a delayed start, early dismissal, or cancellation. We are sorry for any inconvenience these decisions may cause, but we will always do what is best for the safety of our students and staff.
If you have any questions, please call the Sedalia School District 200 Central Office at (660) 829-6450.
Free district smartphone app available
Sedalia School District 200 has a free smartphone app to enhance communication between the district, its parents and the community. The app, created by Finalsite, can be downloaded from the App Store on iPhones and through Google Play on non-Apple phones; just search for Sedalia 200 and it should come up. Once installed, the user selects the buildings he or she is interested in following. That’s it – it’s ready to use.
NOTE: In cases of inclement weather delayed starts, early outs or cancelations, we send push notifications to the app. This is a great way for childcare providers, grandparents, etc., to receive those updates.
