Rhino Weekly Connection
5.9.23
Note from the Principal, Kristen Smetzer!
Wow!! Thank you for the incredible showing of love and support that you all gave our teachers and staff last week for Educator Appreciation Week. We feel loved, we feel valued, and we are so grateful to be a part of this community. Thank you!
We had a few amazingly successful events last week. Our surprise assembly to celebrate Ms. Himel's retirement was so touching and memorable. We welcomed families and Ryan alumni to the celebration, we sang a schoolwide song for her, and we watched a touching slideshow of videos and images.
Fitness Fun Day and Ninja Nation was also so fun! Thanks to Bry, Joe, our PTA, and so many parent and family volunteers who made this such a success. And the weather couldn't have been more perfect!
Student Council has organized a Spirit Dress Up Week this week. See below for the details about the rest of the week's dress up options. It's been fun to see all the participation in this! Crazy hair day today is a particular favorite. :)
Take care, and thanks for sharing your beautiful little humans with us.
Go Rhinos!

News from the Health Room - Medication pick up
News From the Health Room
With just thirteen days of school left, it's time to connect with the Health Room about picking up your child's medication, i.e., pain medications, allergy meds, etc. Parents who have a child with an "urgent med"(i.e., epi-pen, inhaler, etc.) at school should not plan to pick-up meds until the last four days of school. Unclaimed medications will be disposed of, we are unable to store any medications at school, over the summer.
If you plan to have a med at school for your child for next school-year, please have your child's physician complete the authorization form (below) before the first day of school. Forms must be updated each school-year and accompany the medication in the original packing.
Feel free to reach out to Miss Chrystal, our Health Room Aide, with any questions or concerns at chrystal.terhune@bvsd.org OR 720.561.7009.

2023-2024 BVSD Health Services Department Requirements
Registering for Buses 2023-24 School Year
You may have already received this email from BVSD Transportation Department if your student is eligible to ride the school bus, please sign up prior to the deadline of July 1st.
If you need help setting up your parent portal, please contact jamie.hanes@bvsd.org.
As we begin to plan bus routes for the 2023-24 school year, we are asking families to register for the bus, so we know how many students to plan for at each school. This data will help us maximize the number of students we are able to transport next year.
If you need your child to ride the bus for the 2023-24 school year, please register for bus service on Infinite Campus. Registration opens May 1 and closes on Jul. 1 at 5 p.m.
Instructions to register your student(s) for the bus in IC are shown below.
As you may have heard, BVSD is continuing to face a bus driver shortage. For this reason, we are asking that families who have the ability to transport their own students to school do so in order to free up space on our buses for children who have no other way to get to school.
If you know someone who is looking for a part-time job with benefits, including health insurance, please encourage them to apply to be a bus driver here. BVSD provides all training to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
Thank you for your help with our planning process. If you have questions, or if your family circumstances change and you need to change your option, call the BVSD Transportation Department at 720-561-5120 or email us at transportation@bvsd.org.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering is a fun, simple way to get involved within the Ryan community. We have all sorts of opportunities to get involved. Whether you volunteer regularly in your teacher’s classroom or the office copy room or just as needed, the impact can be huge. Not only does it benefit the school but it benefits your kids and families in our community as well! Please take a moment to fill out the background check through raptor: https://www.bvsd.org/parents-students/get-involved/volunteers and click here to see what opportunities we have available Help at School

Vacation/Attendance Reminder
We understand sometimes our students need to be out for an extended period of time, we encourage you to be in touch with your child's teacher as students are responsible for making up missed work upon their return. BVSD policy requires that after 10 absences all absences are marked as unexcused without a doctor's note. If you know your child will be out for more than 3 days or longer, please fill out this form and contact the attendance line at 720-561-7002.
If you have any questions please be sure to reach out!
