The River Hawk
Rio Norte News - September 29, 2023
A Note From the Principal
Good Morning River Hawk Families,
We had a great visit from Kim Karr this week and she delivered such an impactful presentation to our students, challenging them to use social media for good, pointing out they CAN help be part of the solution, but WILL they? If you haven't already, try to take some time over the weekend to ask your student what they learned and see several parent resources, including Ms. Karr's parent presentation slides, that I've attached below. Thank you to the parents that came out to hear Ms. Karr's presentation on Digital Citizenship and Social Media Safety for parents. We believe it was time well spent and hope you felt the same way, taking away strategies you can use and/or the ability to create or change habits right away.
I feel like a broken record, but this year we continue to take calls from concerned community members about some of our students' behavior in the community after school. Most recently the park behind us, where little ones are trying to play, is being affected. Unfortunately, we do not have identification or we would deal directly with those students, so we need our River Hawk community to rally around us and report through the Care Text line (by text 661-213-9276 or email riotip@hartdistrict.org) if they have identifying information of students being inappropriate or disrespectful to others. When our students' behavior is posted in social media and comments are shared about other negative sightings in the shopping areas around us, it affects the reputation of our students and our school. We care about our River Hawk community and want all of our River Hawks representing appropriately, so we can continue celebrating how great our students are!
We have some great events to look forward to in October including our PTSA Krispy Kreme (Pre-Order Only) Fundraiser, ASB Movie Night, the Reflections Competition and Gala, and a breakfast to honor our Rio First Responder Parents. Additionally, please consider joining us on Zoom this Thursday evening for our PTSA General Association Meeting (details below).
