A Note From the District Nurse
- The CDC has a wonderful Isolation and Exposure Calculator on their website. You should utilize this calculator to determine isolation timelines if your child tests positive for COVID-19.
- If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please leave the following information with your school attendance office:
1. They tested positive for COVID-19
2. The first day of symptoms, or, if asymptomatic, the day they tested positive
3. Anticipated return date based on the CDC isolation tracker

From the Office of Student Services and Special Education: Important Attendance Update
There are several important updates from the District Student Services department that we wanted to make you aware of as we start our school year. Please read the information below as it is information that applies to ALL learners and families.
Attendance: We know that there is a direct correlation between school attendance and academic success. As such, we want to ensure that all families are aware of what constitutes excused and unexcused absences as well as how frequent absences can impact learners by missing out on key instruction and/or negatively impacting social relationships at school. Because attendance is key to a successful educational experience, for the 2023-2024 school year, we wanted to provide additional clarification with respect to how your child’s attendance gets documented and reported.
Wisconsin State Statute 118.15 and District policy 5200 guide attendance expectations, and the extent to which parents and guardians can excuse their child’s absences. Per state statute and District policy, a student may not be excused for more than ten (10) school days per year by a parent/guardian. Any parent excused absences beyond the 10 days allowed by the state will be coded as unexcused absences. When unexcused absences accumulate beyond these 10 parent excused days, may result in truancy notifications which are required by the state and/or working with the school to develop a positive attendance plan.
**Please note that students are allowed, per the state, to miss up to 10 days of school per year. However, if you bring in doctor’s notes for any of those absences, those do not count toward the 10 day total and are considered excused absences. Additionally, when a student becomes ill at school and is sent home, that absence will be excused.
Students who arrive late to school will be marked tardy; however, tardies can become absences when the late arrival is extended. Elementary students who are more than 30 minutes late in the morning, or leave more than 30 minutes before the end of the school day, will be marked a half-day absent (0.5 days). Secondary students (SIS and SHS) will be marked absent if they arrive to class 10 or more minutes late (SIS students are considered absent after five minutes for hours two through seven).
Overall our goal is to work with families through the delicate balance of staying home when sick, visiting the doctor’s office when needed, and having consistent attendance! Should you want more information, please review the information in the links below.

Social, Academic and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRs):
We are committed to providing the highest quality education to support the whole child and ensure the lifelong success of all learners. As part of this, we have a tiered system of academic, emotional and behavioral supports to address the needs of all of our learners. This tiered system, called an equitable Multi-Level System of Support (eMLSS), offers preventive services and targeted interventions for students in need as well as instruction for all to ensure the academic, personal/social, and career development of every student.
Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, in addition to our academic screening tools, we will be screening our students’ social-emotional skills using the Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRs). This tool is a 20-item screener that students in grades 2-12 will complete about their own insight into their social, academic, and emotional behaviors.
This information, along with other data, (teacher input, grades, disciplinary and attendance data) will help our schools identify students who may be in need of academic, social-emotional, and/or behavioral support through our eMLSS system.
Students in grades 2-12 will take this screener two times this year, once in September and once in December. Each screening will take students approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
