Back to School Night (1st-5th Grades)
We are so excited to see everyone this evening at Back to School Night. This is a great time for you to get to know your child's teacher and what the learning goals will be for the year.
This evening we will have an architect from HY Architect firm sharing design poster boards designed to present current design concepts and getting feedback you! Your input will help guide the conversations at our Measure J Community meetings. Please be sure to stop by before or after your teacher presentations. Want more? Be sure to attend our Measure J Community Input meeting on September 11th.

Band Information
Dear 4th and 5th Grade Families,
My name is Mrs. Batdorf and I am the Elementary Band Director for the Walnut Creek School District. Band is offered as a music class choice for 4th and 5th grade students that are interested in learning how to play a musical instrument. Students will meet two times per week. One class is 45 minutes and meets at the same time as our general music classes. The second class is a 30 minute pull-out on another day. Band students learn the basics of their instruments, how to read music notation, and learn repertoire to perform as a group. Students must choose between the general music and band classes and remain in that class for the school year.
Band classes will begin the week of September 11th. There are a few steps that need to be completed in order to get students started.
You can watch the video to give you an idea of the instruments included in band.
If you know you want to join band, fill out the online application. You can also visit our band website for more information.
If you have questions or want more information, please attend the Instrument Meet n’ Greet Event on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 3:30-5:30 pm at Tice Creek School. There is no reservation needed this year. Just come by anytime between 3:30 and 5:30 pm.
Finally, if you are ready to rent an instrument, you can visit one of our recommended local music stores who will be happy to assist you OR visit Rockin Robbie’s Music Store at our Instrument Meet n’ Greet!
Band classes will begin the week of September 11th, so make sure your application is completed by September 6th. You will need to have your instrument in hand beginning the week of September 11th.
I’m so excited to get started! Feel free to reach out via email if you have any questions. I’m happy to give advice on instrument choice and how to get started. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jessica Batdorf

Correction from last week: Attendance email typo. Correct email is fharvey@walnutcreeksd.org
Every Wednesday is a late start day with school starting at 8:55am for ALL grades and dismissing at 2:30pm (TK/K dismiss at 12:15pm). Students should not be dropped off any earlier than 15 minutes before the start times unless they are having breakfast.
Please do not park in the two spaces marked “Auction Winner” (even just for a minute). Those spaces are reserved for the families who won them at the Auction last year.
Mark your calendars for Fall Picture Day, Thursday, September 14th. More information and ordering instructions will be included in next week's eNews.
Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Be a G.E.M. and Give Every Month!
Did you know you can spread out your WCEF donation monthly, or even quarterly? Set up a monthly donation (starting at $10 a month) at wcefk12.org/donate, funds are automatically charged each month, and you support our amazing schools and students in a BIG way.
Your donation ensures that programs not funded by the state—like weekly art, music, science lab; our libraries; electives in middle and high school; the Las Lomas Wellness Center—will continue to be available at the Walnut Creek School District and Las Lomas. Become a monthly donor today!
