Dear Friends
February 1, 2022
Replacement levies on February 8 ballot
Both the Educational Programs and Operations Replacement Levy and the Replacement Levy for Technology, Safety and Facility Improvements expire at the end of 2022.
These levies help fill the gap between what the state funds and what it really takes to provide a full and rich learning experience in safe and secure schools for Snohomish School District’s almost 9,300 students.
Proposals to replace both expiring levies are on the February 8, 2022 ballot.
We are committed to openness and transparency. Learn more about these replacement levies at the links below:

By filling out the FAFSA or WASFA, you can access grants, scholarships and other kinds of aid. Parents/guardians and families who attend the session on Tuesday, February 15 will need to bring a copy of their 2020 federal tax return. Spanish-speaking assistance will be available to families.
February cultural awareness and recognitions: Black History Month and Lunar New Year
In the Snohomish School District and community, we honor and recognize our diversity. Please join us this month as we acknowledge Black History Month and Lunar New Year.
Black History Month origins date back over 100 years. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), founded in 1915, originally designated the second week of February as a time for researching and promoting the achievements of Black Americans. The second week of February was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
By the late 1960s, the week had evolved into a month on many college campuses. In 1976, President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month and called upon the public to honor the often-over-looked contributions of Black Americans to American history. Since 1928, the ASALH has selected a theme for each year. The theme for 2022 is “Black Health and Wellness”.
February also brings the Lunar New Year. Also, or more commonly known as Chinese New Year, this is one of the most important celebrations in East and Southeast Asian cultures. The celebration coincides with the first new moon between the end of January and runs until the full moon arrives.
Celebrations vary amongst cultures, but is typically marked by food, decorations, and activities which promote prosperity, abundance, and togetherness. The celebration concludes with the Lantern Festival which includes parades, dances, and fireworks.
For some more information on recognitions throughout the year please check out this link.

Although we are aware of other Facebook pages, please note that this is the only verified Facebook page of the Snohomish School District and is where official information is posted.
- School Messenger - Our district uses the School Messenger automated system as a tool for communication with our parents, families and staff. School Messenger works with the district’s student-data system (Skyward/Family Access) to notify families and staff through phone and/or email of emergencies, critical school and district messages, school/district closures, inclement weather, attendance issues, underfunded student meal accounts and other events/activities. The overall goal of using this service is for parents and families to receive critical information about Snohomish schools - especially information that affects their children - in a timely manner. As long as we have accurate primary phone numbers and email addresses on record for our students in Skyward/Family Access, families should automatically receive these messages when they are sent out.
