School Newsletter Term 3, Week 9
Friday 15th September 2023
Kia ora West End Whānau,
We have loved Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori here at Te Kura O Urumutu (West End School). A big thank you to all involved with providing our tamariki with a wonderful week of Te Reo Māori learning experiences this week. We have enjoyed weekly announcements, waiata, kanikani, games, and much more. Kia ora Whaea Karen and the Te Matauranga Māori team for their preparation and delivery of Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori.
As you may already be aware, last week a large number of our Te Wao Nui O Tāne children competed at the RICOH Sports tournament against other children from schools across Palmerston North. We are very proud of the way our tamariki demonstrated our school values and gave each sport their very best efforts.
The official results provided by the organisers are as follows:
In yet another action packed week, we have enjoyed hosting Tim and Harold the Giraffe from the Life Education Trust. This is an experience that our tamariki look forward to and is often a shared experience that parents and whānau can remember from their time at school. Thank you Tim, it has been wonderful to have you at Te Kura O Urumutu once again.
As we head into the final school week of Term 3 we are looking forward to more learning, our vibe assembly on Wednesday in our school hall, and the continuation of our Swimming lessons with Hilton Browne.
Thank you to our amazing West End School PTA for their efforts to host our world famous at West End School PTA Quiz Night. We are looking forward to a great evening and raising funds towards Te Wao Nui O Tane Camp in 2024.
To all, have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday for Week 10.
Ngā mihi nui,

Ngā mihi o Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori! Tēnā Tātou te whānau whānui o Te Kura o Urumutu. This week has seen all our tamariki participate in different events that led up to our Te Wā Tuku Māori. We had a scavenger hunt, writing competition, colouring competition and even a kaimahi wero! Each morning we were greeted with "Te hiere o to tātou tamariki" from Te Wao Nui o Tāne and Room 5 - Ka mau te wehi tamariki mā! Ka nui te hari au! Kei te whakahihi au ki a koutou! Ngā mihi manaakitanga tamariki mā - kino koutou kē!!

EPro8 in Te Wao Nui o Tāne
Our senior students have been working on their engineering skills with the EPro8 kits - reading instructions, and using their problem solving skills to build a hurricane proof hut that has a working drawbridge to exact specifications. It has been great seeing the Kotahitanga and Mana Aotūroa with these challenging tasks. Today we held our internal competition with 7 teams to see which teams will represent West End School in the EPro8 tournament next term. Dragon Pups, were our winners (Tayla, Zunaira, Momo, Jade) and Aniwaniwa (Haven, George, Isaiah, Roya). Well done to all of the teams who made it to our Internal Event. Congratulations to these 2 teams who will represent West End School in the Interschool competition next term.

We are sending kura within our region a guide to our free event, Art Trail Manawatū 14th and 15th of October (see guide attached).
This is an opportunity for whānau and Kaiako to connect with local artists who are eager to share their practice with the wider community.
The trail can be as short or as long as required, you can take your time at each venue and plan short or long trips in between. Start and finish wherever you like.
We would love for our free event to be a highlight in your calendar, when spring is well underway in our beautiful region.
Everyone can access their own trail guides at www.communityarts.org.nz
