All you need to know about DeMello...
Hello DeMello Families
Our first full week back to school was filled with learning fun. On Tuesday, we held an ST Math 80's Day in celebration of our goal of reaching 80% in puzzle solving! We have to say that students really embraced different aspects of the 80's. Lots of fluorescent colors and hip hop attire! We also welcomed JJ the Mad Scientist back to DeMello to work with all of our students on understanding air pressure! The students were enthralled with many demonstrations including some that involved lots of bubbles, dry ice and fire! I hope your child came home with lots to share about what they learned. A BIG thanks to the DeMello PTO for bringing this quality learning experience to our school!
This week, I was able to see your students engaged in rich math and reading lessons. Our 5th graders led incredible discussions on strategies for multiplying whole numbers and fractions, while our third graders dug deeply into base words and suffixes. What struck me most was how engaged every class was in their learning. Our students are doing a lot of the "heavy lifting" when it comes to their learning and it is a thrill to watch! A big shout out to them as well as their teachers for always having high expectations every day.
As we move through the first month of the year, we are planning more learning fun for the weeks and months ahead! I'll be sharing all the details in upcoming newsletters.
Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend!
Best-
