Reading Practice Suggestion
Read a fall story. Draw a picture about something you do in the fall.
Math Fact Practice Suggestion
Practice your math facts orally. Some places you could practice are in your kitchen before dinner, in the car, or for 10 minutes before bed.
Kindergarten News
Welcome to Kindergarten!
Welcome to the Pak Pride! Whether you are a veteran or a brand new addition to the Auburn Public Schools family, we are looking forward to an exciting year of new learning!
As the school year begins, we introduce and practice all the routines and procedures of Pakachoag Elementary. Your child will learn ways to practice being positive, awesome, and kind in school. We will also start our beginning of the year assessments to better learn how we can teach your child in the classroom.
We will be using GO Math! as our math program. We will be learning math concepts and practice with both hands-on manipulatives and an online math component called “Think Central.” We will also be continuing our newly updated reading program, called Reading Wonders! For our science curriculum, we will be utilizing our Mystery Science program to experiment, watch videos, and read about different science topics. We will also be using Scholastic Let’s Find Out readers to further supplement science and social studies topics.
Here are some routines to work on at home with your child:
Discuss with your child if they are buying a hot lunch or have cold lunch (lunch from home) each day
Remind your child how they go home from school each day, especially if it varies from day to day.
Please pack a spare change of clothes. These clothes will stay in your child’s backpack, so check periodically as the seasons change and as your child grows.
Please remember to empty and return your child’s home folder daily.
Please remember to send your child in with one small snack and a labeled water bottle every day.
Thank you for your generous donations and continued support!

First Grade News
Welcome to First Grade!
The first graders have been very busy getting acclimated to life in first grade. We have been getting to know each other, and the classroom expectations and routines.
We are excited to dive right into learning. In ELA, we have been reviewing some of the skills from kindergarten. Each week, you will get a “Peek at the Week.” The week’s high frequency words will be on this. Please help your child practice these words regularly. Skills that we will be focusing on include: short vowel sounds, retelling, and finding key details from stories read aloud. We will also be focusing on sentence capitalization and text features, such as labels and diagrams.
We have also begun Chapter 1 of Go Math! During Chapter 1, we will look at a variety of addition strategies that include using pictures to add, adding zero, and adding in any order.
We are excited to get to know your children this year and watch them grow as students and individuals.
Thank you!

Second Grade News
Second grade is off to a great start! We were very happy to see so many smiling faces at the Meet and Treat. The second grade team is looking forward to having a successful year in our classroom. This year we will continue to use the Go Math program, which your child used in first grade and Kindergarten. We will continue to use Wonders as our reading curriculum. We will also continue with our science curriculum, Elevate Science. In addition, your child will be introduced to social studies concepts such as government and its laws, continents, and family traditions/cultures.
We hope your child is as excited about this school year as we are. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.
Thank you for your continued support,
