Golden Hills Mission
Principal's Message
Dear Golden Hills Families,
At Golden Hills we really want a strong partnership with families. Family engagement refers to what families do at home and in the community to support their children’s learning. There is a lot of research that shows that when families are involved and engaged students do better. We want this partnership with you.
Help us welcome our new to Golden Hills Staff:
Mr. Benson- Fifth Grade Teacher
Mrs. Langone- Fourth Grade Teacher ( she taught intervention last year, Ms. H)
Mrs. Campos- Fourth Grade Intervention
Mrs. Lorimor: Paraprofessional
Mrs. Padilla: Paraprofessional
We are so happy to announce that Golden Hill students will be having PE with Mr. G, Music with Mr. Grigoruk and Art with Ms. Langford EVERY single week!
Please join Golden Hills Parent Teacher Group and School Site Council! This group is made up of parents, principal, teachers, students and other school personnel. Only 4-6 meetings a year to plan fun activities for our students and staff! The primary responsibility is to identify common goals and assist the leadership team in establishing a plan to achieve the goals. We will address any questions you may have about Golden Hills. First Meeting will be on September 20th from 3-4! New PTG/ SSC members will be acknowledged in our monthly newsletter!
New this year, we will have our Golden Hills Student Advisory Club partnering with our Parent Teacher Group and School Site Council. The Student Advisory Club will also be assisting in leadership opportunities at Golden Hills: helping with the virtual reality parties, LEGO parties, library and more! Our student group will be sharing information about Golden HIlls and working with the parent teacher group. Join the PTG/ SSC so that you can work with your student to make Golden Hills the best place to be!
Attendance matters for our students. Our goal is to have 95% or above of our students at school. Please let us know if we can support your students' attendance in any way! We do not want any student to miss out on our fun activities planned based around attendance.
Our first fundraiser is Reading for Education: Reading For Education is a year-long fundraiser. The school earns money when families and friends shop online at Reading For Education.com. Information will be sent home in September.
Please feel free to reach out to me anytime you have a question or concern,

At our whole school meeting at 8:35 in the EAGLES Nest we will be recognizing students for various reasons. They will be part of a VIP Party on September 18th to celebrate their success in following the TEAM expectations. In September, Shady Creek is the following week for fifth graders so we will be holding this a week early !
Our Positive EAGLE Award is for following TEAM expectations: families will receive an email that their student is receiving the award and they are invited to attend. The award winners are called up and given a certificate for following our TEAM expectations. They will wear a VIP pass for the following Friday. They will get donuts, wear the VIP pass to be front in line and get to choose which lunch period and table they sit at.

Picture Day information:
Golden Hills Picture Day is October 12th.
Golden Hills Make- Up Day is October 26th.
ATTENDANCE Matters:
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
Attendance:
Golden Hills is to average 95% attendance daily and we want ALL Students to miss less than 10%.
Ironman awards will be handed out to classes with the best overall attendance. Individual awards will be handed out for great attendance. If your student is absent more than 10% a meeting will be requested to see how we can support your family.
On August 27th ALL students who have missed less than 2 days will get a popsicle.
Lego Party for the class with the highest percentage for attendance for the month of September on September 30th!
Game Day Party for the class with the highest percentage for attendance for the month of October.
Trimester 1: LASER show called Lasermania! Students who attend 90% or more school days from August to November 10th (absent less than 6 days excused & unexcused) will be invited!
Shady Creek Camp
Shady Creek is a three night, four day environmental camp. Our fifth grade class is hoping to attend September 25th-September 28th. The camps goal is to developing a feeling of personal responsibility to help preserve, conserve, and enhance our environment; developing heightened observation skills to appreciate the beauty and diversity of the natural world; and developing a feeling of self-confidence and self-acceptance while also instilling the ability to cooperate with and appreciate the diversity of others.
The students will stay the night in cabins and attend the following classes:
Birds
Communities
Creek Ecology
Earth Processes
Forest Ecology
Garden
Nature Awareness
Nature Investigation & exploration
Survival
The students cannot attend without 10 adult male and 13 adult female chaperones. Volunteers sleep in the cabin to supervise students. The chaperones must be fingerprinted, TB tested and complete the volunteer application. This takes time so if you are interested please reach out to your students teacher or call the office ASAP. If we do not get enough volunteers we cannot attend.
There will be a class at Golden Hills for students who do not attend Shady Creek.

Counselor’s Message
As part of our ongoing efforts to continue to provide the most impactful experiences for the children and families we serve, we have committed to implementing RULER, an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning developed at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. RULER is also an acronym for the skills of emotional intelligence: Recognizing emotions, Understanding emotions, Labeling emotions, Expressing emotions, and Regulating emotions. Research from the field of emotion science finds that children who understand and manage their feelings make more responsible decisions, have stronger relationships, and perform better in school. The middle school is also using this same curriculum. This will help with consistency across grade levels.
A small team of staff attending a training virtually over the summer. And beginning this fall we will be sharing what we learned with the rest of our staff so that we can use the skills of emotional intelligence to reach our goals and support our students in doing the same.
As we learn more about RULER, we’d like to do that in partnership with you. My hope is to be sharing more information with you through our monthly newsletters and possibly sharing some additional learning opportunities with you as the year progresses.
When schools and families partner around these goals, students feel supported and reap the benefits. I look forward to learning and growing together this year.
