Greetings from Groveport Elementary

Principal Message
Student Drop Off - Students should not be dropped off before 9:00 AM. We don't have supervision before this time and students will be outside in the cold temperatures. Also, the oval in the front is for the buses. All drop offs must be in front of the school by the fence or at Middle School Central parking lot. If you are choosing to drop off in the front, please don't get out of your car because this is a no parking area - drop and go.
Car Rider Pick-up - Please continue to use Middle School Central's parking lot. Students will be walked out to the end of the drive at 3:35. The weather is going to be very cold the next couple months, but please continue to get out of your car and meet your child. Also, please do NOT bring your dog to pick up or leave him/her in the car. We love dogs but if your dog doesn't fit in your purse please don't bring it to drop-off and pick-up. This is for everyone's safety and many students are afraid of large dogs.
Recess - We will be going out for recess if the temperature is 25 degrees or above, please make sure your child wears a coat, hat and gloves. We have activities and games for indoor recess, so we ask that your child not bring in toys from home unless the teacher has given specific permission. We can't be responsible for lost or stolen property.
Birthday Treats - If you decide to send in a treat for your child's classroom, please contact the teacher to make arrangements beforehand. We are continuously getting new students and we have had parents send in treats but not enough for the whole class or bring in the treats after the scheduled time the teacher plans for treats.
Phones - Students are not to have cell phones at school. If they do bring their phone it needs to be turned off and kept in their bookbag. Some teachers will also collect them until the end of the day, but we aren't responsible for the phones. Our policy is still no use of cell phones during school time. This is affecting our learning environment. The first time a student has their phone out a teacher will politely ask them to turn it off and put it away. The 2nd time the the teacher will collect the device, return it at the end of the day, and call parent. The 3rd time the device will be given to the office and returned at the end of the day with a parent phone call from an administrator. If the student brings the phone again a parent will need to pick up the device.
Focus on Learning
Our students have been working on writing. They are practicing using precise language and domain specific vocabulary to inform or explain a topic. Our 4th and 5th graders have been writing multi-paragraph essays and using our TREE (transitions, reasons, evidence and elaboration) organizer to
help plan out their writing before they begin typing their essays.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
