Colton Hills School Bulletin
24 March 2023
High Performance Learning Pathway School
Introduction by Miss Nutting, Assistant Headteacher KS4
Welcome to our fortnightly bulletin. We will be sharing with you the latest news, events and important dates at Colton Hills. The focus of the last two weeks has been on assessment for all year groups. Year 11 and 13 have just finished their final set of mock exams, showing the utmost diligence and perseverance throughout. All other year groups have completed in class assessments, with Year 10 completing core exams in the sports hall in order to give them an early experience of mock exams.
Other activities that have taken place in preparation for GCSE exams include a performance of ‘An Inspector Calls’ for Year 10 and ‘Macbeth’ for Year 11 by the production company Katch22. A schedule for Easter revision will soon be shared with students in Year 11 and Year 13 so keep your eyes peeled!
Year 11 students, please be reminded that anyone wishing to go to Prom need to pay their deposits by Friday, 7th April (£15.00).
We would to take this opportunity to wish our Muslim community a blessed Ramadan Mubarak and a happy Easter in advance.
Colton Hills Wins Again!
Our KS3 STEM club took part in the Oxford Schools Science Fair National Competition, with the help of Mrs Oleschuk and Mr Lilley. They have been working hard on their presentation and model and we are ecstatic to announce that their Tropical Amazon Rainforest presentation WON the Biology theme! In British Science Week no less!
Congratulations to Olga, Emma, Angelina, Sam and Emilia!
6th form trip to Biology in Action Conference
On Tuesday, 14th March, hundreds of students from different schools gathered in the Emmanuel Centre, Westminster, London to hear cutting edge research from key biologists. They heard from a range of fields, from whether there could be life on Mars, to the day to day challenges (and rewards) of being a GP to whether we can bring back dodos!
To add to this, our students visited as VIPs for the day, as their teacher, Ms McClure, is also a presenter, sharing the Colton Hills way of revising and succeeding in exams. Special thanks to Mr O'Hara for driving us there and back! What a great British Science Week event!
Year 8 Parents Evening
On Wednesday, 22nd March, students confidently led a discussion with their parent/carers showing off their work proudly! They were also able to self-regulate and consider areas of improvement.
Thank you to all the parents/carers who took time to come into school and see all the fantastic progress students have made and well done to the Year 8 students.
CCF at Nesscliff Camp
The training was supplemented with smoke grenades & battle noise simulators to add realism. One cadet said:"It was epic, felt like I was in a film when the smoke went off!" Well done to all who took part!
