Principal's Message
Hello Wildcats,
As we head into finals and graduation week, I want to take a couple of seconds to thank all of the parents and families who have partnered with us this year to help their students be successful. Helping teens be successful really does take a team effort.
As we close out this school year, I want to encourage all of you to plan activities with your families and your kids. We all know that communication is the key, if we allow our kids to not engage with us, to never eat meals together, to have thier phones when we are doing family acitivities we are not opening the lines of communication. Make non- negotiable plans to eat together, go to or watch a movie or a TV show. Have them share with you the things they find funny and interesting on social media. Breach the tough subjects, the number one thing you can do to keep your kids safe is to talk with them. Talk about things like drugs and alcohol, dating, human trafficking, getting good grades. Share with them your expectations as far as grades and the future, many of our kids put extra pressure on themselves because they think they know your extpectations, often they are wildly off base. The summer is the best time to do this as you can talk and then let them process and talk some more.
As this will be my last edition of the Wildcat Press, I want to thank you all again for reading, for sharing your thoughts and for sharing your students with us. It has truly been my honor to be the Principal of Mesquite High School.
Sincerely,
Rod Huston
Principal

MHS Spanish Exam
22 MHS Spanish learners took the National Spanish Exam in April. The NSE is prestigious because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with approximately 85,000 students participating in 2023. 14 of our students scored above the national average.
Spanish III students Diego Cruz and Giulia Herckes received a “premio de bronce” for scoring from 75th - 84th percentile. Spanish I students Jaelyn Campos Velasco, Sydney Hammond, and Jacob Patrick received a “premio de plata” for scoring from the 85th - 94th percentile.
Felicidades estudiantes for attaining national recognition for excellent performance on the 2023 National Spanish Examinations.
