Foreign Language Conference
OUR Language Acquisition teachers attended the Foreign Language Association of Ga conference in Atlanta on March 10th and 11th. The Theme was Language on My Mind. We attended workshops about best practices in the field, connected with language teachers all over the state and browsed through exhibitions of materials for supporting all things language.
For those who have been around awhile, do you recognize a former SummerOUR foreign language teacher in the small picture to the right?

Lettum Eat Food Truck
This week, SummerOUR was visited by Chef Hank and the Lettum Eat food truck. Chef Hank talked to our Engineering students (who design food trucks in CAD every semester) and our Marketing students (who learn to market in real-world scenarios). The kids got an amazing tour of the food truck. We are so grateful for Chef Hank and the time he took to educate SummerOUR students!
Bluebucks Café
Wow! What an amazing opening!
OUR students were working and enjoying their time in OUR new Bluebucks Café. The café is a PBIS reward, and students use earned Blue Bucks to participate. On Bluebucks Café weeks, the café will be open to 8th grade students on Fridays of each week, while it will be open to 6th and 7th grade students on Wednesday's. There is a limit of 3 students per team each week.
Y2K Dance & Spirit Week a Success!
Thank you to Ms. Fraiz and Mr. Villegas, who organized and managed OUR Spirit Week and OUR Y2K Dance yesterday!
They want to express their gratitude for all who helped in promoting, participating in spirit week, and hosting an amazing dance! The dance was a great success!
To all who volunteered at the dance, Thank You! The dance was smooth and easy.
Pi day (3/14) & The Ides of March (3/15)
Mathematicians have Pi day on March 14. We have St. Patrick's Day on March 17. But, do you know the Ides of March?
In act 1, Scene 2 of the tragedy "Julius Caesar," a soothsayer appears in a crowd and warns Ceasar to "beware the ides of March". ("Ides" = 15th). This warned him to take cover because he was in danger. But, of course, Ceasar ignored the warning and left the safety of his home. Senators later murdered him on March 15. One of these murderers was his good "friend" Brutus. Hence the famous quote "et tu Brute??" (you too, Brutus?)

Have You Tried the Apps?
ParentVUE App
Parents can use this if they have a Parent Portal account. It's an app that makes it much easier to quickly access the portal and navigate student grades, absences, etc...
We strongly encourage you to use this if you have a portal account. If you don't have a portal account, come to the school and set one up.
Uninstall/Reinstall
If you are using either of these apps, but it quit working in September of 2022, you may need to uninstall/reinstall. There was a major update last month that requires this.
StudentVUE App
Students can install this on their iOS device (iPhone, iPad) or their Android device to more easily access the "My StudentVUE" portion of their portal: this includes, grades, missing assignments, etc.
