Principal’s Update
Kia ora, Nameste, Talofa, Konnichiwa, Guten Tag, Gidday, Vannakkam, ni Hao, Kia orana, Hola, Salam, Sa wat deekha, Dia Dhuit, Goeie Dag, Bonjour, Καλημέρα, Greetings everyone
A big thank you to our community for completing all the digital feedback forms we have had running over the last couple of weeks.
We have had 116 responses to our Whānau Inventory. This is not our entire community, so we have left the form open in case you have not got to it yet - https://forms.gle/a5CBXpvFPZ4rUoAS7. A reminder that this includes essential permissions for the publication of work, learning and use of digital devices. Without this information your child may not be able to use technology in their classroom.
Thank you also for the very positive support for our teachers' attendance at the Paid Union Meetings next week (Wednesday 1 March). We have around 100 children being picked up at 12.30. We enormously appreciate our community's willingness to get behind the teachers as they campaign for conditions that will encourage the best people to join the profession (and retain them) while enabling them to provide the most supportive learning environments for our children.
In case you are now able to pick up your child at 12.30 on Wednesday 1 March - please let us know HERE.
For those families who are not able to pick up their children, we will be providing an alternative programme next Wednesday afternoon in shared spaces with appropriate supervision.
Our Working Bee scheduled for Saturday 18 March, is gathering momentum with 17 families having now indicated their interest - https://forms.gle/6rsUYJkEbCiMVMif6 - to be completed by Monday 6 March please if you are interested.
Moving to Fortnightly Newsletters
As of this week we will be moving to fortnightly newsletters from Bellevue.
Feedback has indicated that the outline of dates for the term would be useful to send out weekly - especially as these are updated with events we are currently planning.
Following this week, newsletters will come home on 8 March, 22 March and 5 April for the remainder of the term.
On the alternate weeks we will send home just the ‘Important Dates’ section for your reference.
Schoolwide notices, alerts or reminders will continue to be sent home in between these times via our other communication channels; our closed group Bellevue Facebook Page or email as currently. Hubs will continue to use their termly/weekly newsletters and Seesaw as their main channel of communication with whānau.
Please also bookmark our Bellevue Website for easy reference.
2023 Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Professional Learning
Bellevue has been awarded Ministry Funded professional learning for 2023 to support us to develop our ‘Place Based Curriculum’. We are working with Matt Richards from Village Robot on a project that will provide exciting learning experiences for our kaiako and ākonga in the new Aotearoa New Zealand’s History area of the curriculum. Alongside this, we will develop our digital fluency and assessment for learning practices. Since the ANZHistories learning area has been constructed using the ‘Understand - Know - Do’ learning model that the New Zealand Curriculum Refresh will be based upon, this will provide us with a strong foundation for adapting to the refreshed learning areas in our school.
SchoolDocs - Live to our Community
We are delighted to announce that our Bellevue SchoolDocs Policies and Procedures website is ready to go live with our community.
The school works on a subscription basis with SchoolDocs to maintain, update, and review our policies. SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies, which have been well researched and align with the National Education and Learning Priorities. The policies and procedures are tailored to our school, and the school supplies specific information such as our charter, and procedures for health and safety, reporting to parents, etc.
SchoolDocs updates, modifies, or creates policies in response to changes in legislation or Ministry guidelines, significant events, reviews/requests from our school leadership team, and regular reviewing from the SchoolDocs team. Our school board has the opportunity to view changes/additions and comment on them before they are implemented.
As you will see there are many policies that guide school decisions and these are reviewed on a cycle. We have done our utmost to make sure these reflect current practice to date, but they will also be refined by the review process as we work through this cycle. As always we value your feedback so please don’t hesitate to let us know if you see anything that requires updating.
It is our aim to increase transparency around our school policies and procedures. We would suggest you begin by visiting the Parents and Whānau section on our SchoolDocs site – it has a brief description of SchoolDocs, and important information about parent involvement, communication and reporting, community conduct expectations, and social media guidelines. There is also a Quick Links for Parents and Whānau topic with links to the most relevant policies and procedures.
We invite you to visit the site directly using the button below which will remain in our newsletters, or via the ‘Bellevue Board’ page on the school website - by clicking the large checkbox SchoolDocs image. Our username is "bellevue-newlands" and password "grow".

Annette
Welcome
Haere mai ki te kura o Bellevue. Welcome to the following student and their whānau. It is great to have you in our Bellevue Learning Community.
Marcus in Room 2
Thank you
Thank you to the wonderful team of ‘Working Bees’ who rolled up their sleeves and cleared this enormous heap from our car park at the weekend.
Powhiri to Welcome New Students
A Powhiri to welcome new students will be held on Thursday 16 March at 10.40am. Invitations will be sent out shortly.
Trading Cards - Your support please
There are an increasing number of Pokemon cards making their way into the school. While we recognise that these can be used very constructively for a number of games, they can also create disruption, upset and competition when traded. For this reason we ask that you do not allow your child to bring any trading cards to school.
Integrity Focus
As part of our PB4L journey, we have begun the year with a focus on the value of Integrity. Classes are unpacking what having Integrity ‘looks like’ in each area of our lives. The two images below show what classes will be discussing as part of our explicit teaching of positive behaviours. This is one of the values we will be acknowledging students for demonstrating with Class Dojo points. Over the coming weeks we encourage you to talk with your child about how they are showing integrity or what this looks like in your family.
Road Patrol Supervision 2023 - Desperately Seeking Support
We are still looking for adults to support our students while they are on road patrol throughout 2023. It is a legal requirement for schools to have an adult stand with the Road Patrols when they are on duty. It is important that our children are able to safely cross the road.
When: Thursday & Friday mornings as well as Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday afternoons
Times: Mornings - 8:25 am to 9:00 am; Afternoons - 2:50 – 3:15pm
Who: Any parent, grandparent or caregiver is welcome. Your child DOES NOT have to be a road patrol in order for you to volunteer.
Please email Deeann at deeann@bellevue-newlands.school.nz or contact the school office if you are able to volunteer.
Road Safety
Important reminders:
Please … do not park on the footpath. In doing so the safety of all our students is compromised.
Please… do follow the road rules - give way to up hill traffic, go to the top of Bancroft Terrace to turn and do NOT double park or park on the yellow lines in the Terrace.
Please … do not turn around by the school driveway or near the school patrols or drive through when the signs are out.
Please … for the safety of everyone do not let children exit vehicles on the road side of the car.
Please … be considerate to our neighbours by not parking or turning in their driveway as when you back out it is very hard to see young children on the footpath behind you.
Please … remember that children look at adults as role models for behaviour. By using the school Road Patrol Crossing you help all our students be safe. Please do not cross outside this crossing area when the Road Patrols are on duty.
Important information about the Bellevue School enrolment scheme (zone)
If you have pre-schoolers at home that you are planning to enrol at Bellevue School in the future, here are a few important things to know and put into action:
1. If you are living outside of the Bellevue School enrolment zone, then your pre-schooler(s) will need to be processed as an out of zone application. Please let us know, if you haven’t already, of any future enrolments at Bellevue School from your family. It helps greatly with our planning to know well in advance. And if we know then we can also prompt you as to when you need to get your out of zone application in
2. It is very important that out of zone applications are received by the application deadline of 9am Friday 31 March 2023, for enrolment from Saturday 1 July 2023 to Friday 22 September 2023. We cannot accept any out of zone applications if they are not received by the deadline advertised for the enrolment period your child is due to start school in. The deadline can sometimes be up to six months prior to your child actually starting school.
3. Even if your pre-schooler(s) are in zone, please get your enrolment in to us as soon as possible to enable us to plan ahead. We need this information to be able to work out how many out of zone applications we can accept in each enrolment period.
If you have any questions or are unsure about anything, please call the school office and talk to Amanda.
Minutes of Board Meetings - On the Bellevue Website
Board meeting minutes are public documents and therefore you have a right to see them.
The minutes of the meetings will also record whether the board went into committee (to discuss confidential information or information pertaining to a specific individual - for example staff appointment or resignation). If this occurred, you will not be able to see what was discussed in that part of the meeting. The only details you will see will be when that part of the meeting started and finished.
The minutes also usually state the agreed time and place of the next meeting.
Bellevue School Board now publishes the minutes of our meetings online - please take a look under ‘Our People’ on our website HERE.
Please note that the minutes of a meeting need to be approved by the Board as a true and accurate record at a subsequent meeting so there is a 4-6 week delay between the meeting and the minutes being published to the public.
Working Bee - tentative date 18 March
We have had a number of kind community members offer assistance with tidying up our school grounds which have become 'unruly' over the summer!
In response we would like to propose a working bee during the day on Saturday 18 March.
At this stage, we are keen to gauge interest to inform our planning. If you are not able to come along on the day, please consider sending along some baking or kai to sustain the workers!
If you are able to assist on this day - either in person or by providing sustenance - please let us know through THIS FORM before Monday 13 March.
Thank you for supporting us to keep Bellevue looking beautiful!
Toku Ano Au - Cultural day
Please see attached the following letter with some information about our Cultural day that will be held in Term 1.
Local Partnerships
We are always looking to strengthen our partnerships and relationships with those in our local community, If you work for a company that may be interested in supporting our school, please get in touch with annette@bellevue-newlands.school.nz.
Thank you.

Movin’ March starts next week!
All through March, we will be stamping Walk or Wheel (WOW) Passports for every trip to and from school that your child walks or wheels. Walking or wheeling to school is a great way to get active, kick start learning for the day, and take care of the environment. If you live further afield why not try ‘Park and Stride’? Children can be dropped off on Link Road (by Bellevue Kindy) or the bottom of Bancroft Terrace and walk from there to get their stamp. Happy Movin’!
Wellington Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon 2023 registrations are closing THIS SUNDAY!

Juicies orders for athletics day close this Friday 24 February
FUNdraisers are back into the swing of the school year and looking forward to bringing the FUN to our students this term! Our current activities are all planned to coincide with school events.
We need a little assistance from our community on 8 March for distributing the Juicies to the
classrooms at lunch time. Even easier if you are going to be at school supporting our Tamariki and can help us! Please let Rebecca know at fundraisers@bellevue-newlands.school.nz
We will also be putting out a further call for help for the FUNRun events, both for getting the pizza lunches to our children, and then later in the day, the Juicies after the FUNRun.
Many hands make light work and increases our ability to ensure these activities bring the FUN for all!
We also have a lot of ideas in the pipeline to make our activities for the kids even more FUN and engaging, so please if you can spare the time and effort, please come and be involved with our committee!
Juicies for Athletics Day
Athletics is scheduled for 8 March, and your FUNdraisers will be bringing the Juicies to your kids during lunch time to cool them down and quench their thirst! Orders will close on 24 February.

Pizza and Juicies for the FUNRun
