Did You Know That...
- You can join our PTA meeting via Zoom on Tuesday, October 10th:
https://us04web.zoom.us/j/6515652924?pwd=jo0bzhg7EoiYpaCAG3bU1BEgzFF855.1
Meeting ID: 651 565 2924
Passcode: 19eHHf
- Tomorrow, Tuesday Oct. 10th, we have a Secure drill at 9:30. This is when we limit any access to our school from outside because of a potential risk to students within the community. This is a simple drill, as it is business as usual; we just can't have anyone enter or exit the building. This will last approximately 3-5 minutes.
Crosswalks
- We've had too many close calls at the crosswalks near our school. Please be extra mindful of students crossing the street. If you are picking up your child at the front of the school, please pull all the way forward so we don't have traffic backed up into the street waiting to get in. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
We are excited to invite you to our October Parent Series called "How to Motivate Your Child". During this call, you will learn how to develop intrinsic values within your child and the effects of negative reinforcements. This event will cover topics such as positive and negative reinforcement, results of negative reinforcement, tips to keep a child’s motivation going and developing intrinsic values within your child.
This event will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 6:30-7:30 PM virtually. We hope you will join us for this informative and helpful event! Please register for the event at http://cookcenter.info/Oct11Davis
Halloween Parade
Our Whitesides Halloween Parade will be Tuesday, October 31st, at 9:30 a.m. Remember that teachers need to know what costume your child will wear by Friday, October 13th.
The parade will take place on the track on the north side of the school. Bring a chair and/or blanket. Students should come dressed in costume and will remove it after the parade. If it's a costume that doesn't distract from learning (i.e., wearing overalls for a farmer costume, etc.), students can leave it on the remainder of the day.
To ensure the parade is a positive experience for students and a tradition we continue, please carefully note the following restriction on costumes.
*Students may not dress up as an ethnic or cultural group. Culture is not a costume. In respect to the Native American view, students cannot dress up as Pocahontas, Sacagawea, Sitting Bull, etc. This is cultural appropriation and is inappropriate.
*Skin color cannot be altered in any way.
*No masks.
*Costumes cannot be gory or threatening.
*No costumes that depict illegal substances.
*No hand-held accessories (i.e., wands, weapons, etc.)
*No strapless costumes or mid-drifts. Underwear should not be visible.
*Costumes should be fun and exciting, not political or offensive.
If you are unsure about a particular costume, please feel free to contact Ms. Schulz or your child's teacher.
Parents should not come dressed in costume.
We will live stream our parade for those that aren't able to make it. In case of inclement weather, we will still live stream the parade so parents can watch at home.
