Oak Harbor High School
We are finishing out the end of our first trimester this week. It has been so wonderful to have all of our students back in person every day. After so much disruption to the school setting due to COVID-19 over the last couple of years, we are still working with students to get them adjusted back into a school environment full-time. This is not an issue unique to Oak Harbor. I have talked with other administrators in other districts across the state facing similar challenges, daily.
To help with the challenges we are facing, please consider having a conversation with your student about their relationships and interactions at school. Encourage them to share with trusted school staff when they hear of situations that may be harmful or unsafe, like the cliche phrase “if you see something, say something.” I can assure you that school staff want to keep every student safe, but we need your help, and, most importantly, your student’s to make sure we can provide the safest learning environment possible.
As many of you know, my first year as Oak Harbor’s principal was the year that COVID hit. Now that I am in my third year, I can tell you that one of my favorite things about this school and community is the way that everyone rallies around our students. This has never been more important than it is now. I am truly so thankful to be the principal at Oak Harbor High School and look forward to expanding current relationships with our students and parents.

Annual Food Drive
The Key Club partnered with the Army National Guard to get our annual canned food drive off the ground! This school-wide canned food drive competition started on November 1st & ended on the 22nd. The class that brought the most food, winning the competition, is Mrs. Wethall's class, bringing in over 300 cans of non-perishable food items. Our entire school accumulated 1,380 food items. WAY TO GO WILDCATS!
A Campus Hero!
Shout out to Noah Allen for coming to the rescue of his classmate. While at lunch he noticed one of his peers was choking & sprung into action by performing the Heimlich Maneuver. Noah is CPR certified, which is why he was able to act so quickly. When commended for his rescue, Noah simply shrugged his shoulders & responded "Eh".
Thank you, Noah, not only for saving your schoolmate but for your bravery & your efforts in being an amazing young man & a true campus hero!
FOREFRONT SUICIDE PREVENTION
SUICIDE PREVENTION IS EVERYONE'S JOB.
Join the OHHS Forefront Suicide Prevention team, December 1st, as they present LEARN steps that empower individuals to help others move in a direction of hope, recovery & survival. These five steps play an important role in helping us recognize when peers, friends & family might be having thoughts of suicide. This will be the "parent" version of LEARN presented by Forefront team members, Matthew Erikson (OHHS parent) & Christy Kellison (OHHS staff). All are invited to attend.
